now, obviously being up here i don't get to go to many games...

what i was thinking, however, is that whenever someone praises revell, its because he 'works hard', and not anything to do with his actual ability

is he just the lower league alan smith? or does he actually have a bit of ablity?

He does have some ability as he has shown over the past 2 or 3 weeks. However, he's not a complete player by any means and I'd describe as the Kuyt of League one. When he's good he's very good but when he's bad, like yesterday, then he's very bad.

I've said before, give Rev 60 mins to cause as much mayhem as possible with his workrate, then sub him for Elder.

He's an unselfish, wholehearted workhorse who will occasionally nab a goal, but is by no means a prolific or natural finisher. The third division is the absolute limit of his effectiveness.

A bit like Gary Hart, but with larger teeth.

He's not a quality League 1 player and never will be, but you can't fault his workrate, this shouldn't however, give him an image of a quality player as it does to some people.

I wouldn't mind seeing him replaced as long as the replacement is of better ability than him.

He is pretty average really , he is pretty decent at holding the ball up and laying it off . I don't think he is a great partner for Forster though.
Will always give his all which is all you can ask but there is only so far that can take you. As mentioned I think mid table league one is about right for him

definitely not an ideal partner for Forster, but are the tactics or formation used yesterday to blame for that? They played so far apart, but was that to allow Cox at the head of the diamond to bomb into the box? Forster also to my mind came looking for the ball too much, rather than playing off Revell. It was obvious to the majority of those I was sat around and talked to in the Tap after the game that Elder should have been on after 60 mins, possibly with Reid coming off and Revell going wide right.

I'd say hes the Kuyt of the conference playing in league 1, he may run around like a headless chicken but that doesn't make him a good player to me.

Reid was having a decent game though. He played the pass of the game to put Forster in that 1 on 1, would have been harsh to sub him.

As it goes, there were plenty of moaners around me in block D telling Wilkins to change it with half an hour to go. I actually thought we were playing ok and looking likely to score, so wouldn't have changed anything. Having been pegged back to 1-1 soon after we got the goal though, perhaps Elder could have come on sooner. But that said, we were making inroads up until then. Once the changes had been made, we did precisely f*** all.

be nice if anyone in the back four maybe looked to play it into his feet rather than just giving him long balls and get battered like he did yesterday, he is a skillfull player and works his socks off and deserves to be starting every game at the moment, he is a genuine threat with the right service, shouls have played all 3 up for the last 10 mins yesterday !

No skill
No pace
No talent
No flair
No creativity
No vision
Not a goalscorer
No real strength
No control
No partnership with the BRILLIANT Forster (note he only scored when alongside Bas)

I'm feeling quite content with the starting XI at the moment, and I don't feel we desperately need to make any changes APART from replacing the headless chicken with a league striker (Oh, and getting Robinson back in). Do that, and I still think we're top 6 material.

I think you've missed 'No footballing brain':jester:

Revell is a good complimentary striker but needs to play with a stong player that can hold the ball up well. Forster, Revell and Robinson would all look better with this type of player.

He's averaging a goal every 4 appearances for us and that includes games where he has come on as sub or played on the wing. Not a bad record for a secondary striker.

I think people forget that at his height (6'3") with a slim build and high centre of gravety, he is always going to struggle to hold the ball up or turn quickly.

I think the other thing that is easy to overlook is that Ravell came from non league and has not played alongside any experienced strikers until Forster. This will not have helped his development
