I feel like a few people are forgetting how badly we ended last season. De Zerbi brought us some of the most fun times ever, but the last three months or so were dismal.

We were so bad by that stage of the season, we lost at home to Manchester United. Let that sink in.

Not where I want
The PBOBE / TB declared aim is a regular top ten place. PBOBE's here until 2030 probably/at least. I'm happy and cheerful that there is steady progress towards that target within the timescale he's committed to. And along the way there have been great moments as summarised by @chaileyjem et al so not bad really. If that or better can be achieved alongside a bit of Europe and some major travel improvements (sorry couldn't resist) then plenty of reasons to be cheerful.

Like I say, we know what we're watching, while we're watching it. Same as we always did. And for large chunks of the season it's been pretty insipid, even if the stats suggest it's been pretty wonderful. Fact check: it hasn't been all that, however much you spin it with stats
Hey, I'm agreeing with you, its pretty average. I also think where we're finishing is pretty deserved, some good performances, some downright bad ones. And 10th in the league, and our second highest points total ever, is exactly what this average up-and-down season gets you. We know what we're watching, and we have to recalibrate, this is better than any other season in our history other than the Potter/RDZ hybrid year, and its felt fairly average. So I am certainly looking forward to an above-average season next year (or maybe another new average )

We did not throw the points away, the penalty came from a non foul free kick. Ref had a massive influence on the result yesterday

I have been quick, possibly too quick, to jump on our f*** ups this season. I have no complaints about Fab or the team yesterday. Newcastle deserved at least a point all things considered imo.
Are you forgetting like Ayari it’s football and not basketball 🤣

Just like so many people seem to want to say again and again just how happy they are at mediocrity :catfight:

Gotta hate those people that can see the positives 😂

On a thread titled 'reasons to be cheerful' though? Not really the same is it.

There are plenty of threads made by the doom mongers for the doom mongers.

And don't get me wrong, I expect it to carry on it just makes me laugh that people argue with a thread called 'reasons to be cheerful'. I even respect the commitment to being a miserable bastard. That shit takes some effort.

Just far enough away from LDC
I'm not arguing. The title was 'reasons to be cheerful - sort of' as in its slightly ironic and expecting a nuance to be placed over it

Me either, I am just enjoying the irony.

As always, apologies for setting the botphone ringing off its hook at Chailey Towers on a public holiday. My bad
I‘m just sad you couldn‘t enjoy the high points of this seasons. We are now operating at a higher level than we ever have before another margins for error are razor thin. Considering the injury problems we have had we have done well this season, and I am excited for next year. Sorry you do not feel the same way

I understand what you are saying , but should of been so much better when you consider The points dropped against the relegated teams
Oh, please stop. You could also say it could have been so much worse if we hadn't beaten teams above us. The simple fact is, we are doing well in a league that is the focus of most football fans around the world. We are achieving the goals set out by our brilliant owner. The glass is not half empty.

The most successful period of our history by some metric and people are still miserable. Tony must wonder why he bothered.

With a slight dip this season due to injuries and our manager learning the ropes it is a brilliant time to be a Brighton fan.

Some people are just happy being miserable.

I’d be very surprised if he’s ever enjoyed anything!

Personally, I think that anyone who is critical of the team/Club for our dismal record against the bottom 6 clubs this season, that doesn’t at least acknowledge our quite horrendous injury record as a factor is being disingenuous. To still be in the hunt for Europe after what has been a season with unprecedented absences for a variety of injuries, is, to my mind, exemplary.

Our record against the bottom 6 (United, Spurs, West Ham, Ipswich, Leicester, Southampton) this season so far is played 11, won 6, drawn 5, lost 0. Could be better, but not dismal. But yes I agree with your point.

Perhaps it’s the disappointment of not beating some of those teams when we really should have has clouded my memory. But, again, it’s more to do with injuries and the inability to be able to play a settled 11, with at least 8~9 first choice players that has led to a sense of what might have been.

I said to a Geordie fan yesterday, we don’t check to see who scored after a game anymore, we just check to see how many have been injured and how many months they will be out for.
