I’ve seen two of the most incredible goals I’ve ever witnessed on a football pitch , big wins v Newcastle , Chelsea and Man City and another double over Man Utd. Last minute wins v United, Fulham and West Ham , the Spurs comeback have been up there as Amex moments of all time - certainly not “insipid” or bang average. Or completely down to the failings of others. But yes - we’re going to finish 11-8th - incredible given where we are for some, not acceptable for others.
I'm guessing Mitoma against Chelsea is one of them. what's the other? Genuine question as I've a memory like a sieve.

The two Gakpo strikes - and Salah’s - were decent. Also Palmer’s free kick if you ignore the fact he was closer to the goal than he should have been.
There’s been some amazing goals in Albion matches this season. Our goal of the season reel (I think there’s 10 or 12) was one for the ages,

I love that some people have read the thread title of 'reasons to be cheerful' and thought 'nope, not having that. I need to tell them once again how unhappy I am'.

😂

As always, apologies for setting the botphone ringing off its hook at Chailey Towers on a public holiday. My bad

Probably guilty…..
Just not a happy clappy type, but could be by the end of the season 😃
Fwiw I wasn't referring to you, your posts are usually fairly balanced.

This old chestnut gets churned out after another game where we take the lead and throw the points away. A stat that’s unsurprisingly brushed under the carpet.
would that also be the same old chestnut of the games where we've got points from losing positions (Man City, Spurs as examples) which you may also be brushing under the carpet.......

Just far enough away from LDC

Just like so many people seem to want to say again and again just how happy they are at mediocrity :catfight:

Most foreign young players do not have their best season when they arrive. In fact a lot of them who go onto having stellar careers actually struggle. Before he had joined us Hürzeler had never coached in a division higher than the German second tier and I think he shows signs of benefiting from such a sharp learning curve. It may have been at home but yesterday’s resilient performance was miles away from those Stamford Bridge and the City Ground.

Also we have long known we can go on the attack against the very best (with the first half at Anfield being just one of the stand out examples). Okay, the criticism we have seldom put two good halves together is valid but we’re a very young team (second youngest squad in the division as well as only having the sixth lowest wage bill) and had the worst injuries. If we avoid losing too many of our core players we have every reason to be cheerful about next season.

If…

…Give me a season when a key player didn’t retire or move on? Each season can only be judged on its own merits. The inconsistency and unpredictability of players performances is what makes the game exciting in many respects. No guarantees. Except we’ll all be wrong in our forecasts :)
