The dull part of the south coast
I thought I’d throw this little bit of statto stuff out there. As it stands we are on course for our second highest ever League position if we better our 9th spot of 2022. We have accumulated the second highest number of points in the PL (52) compared with 51 under Potter in 2022. And, with three games still to go. Not too bad a season then considering we started with a new, inexperienced coach and a whole raft young promising players joining the ranks. However this season ends 2025/26 could be one hell of a journey and certainly one to look forward to.

I understand what you are saying , but should of been so much better when you consider The points dropped against the relegated teams

Might be true stats-wise, but we know what we're watching, and that's been largely bang average. Any opportunities to participate at the business end of the table have been largely due to the falling off a cliff of Tottenham and Man U. For us, based on performance, 10th place finish sounds about right

Just far enough away from LDC
Realistically this will feel a season of what if for me.

To get 8th we now need a minimum of 7 points i think. And indeed 9 may not be enough.

When we lost to Brentford a few weeks ago and I was saying how Frank had got the best out of his team and people were saying I knew nothing as Brentford were below us. Guess what, they aren't now and have 3 winnable games left.

Yes in a purely transactional sense this will be either our 2nd (more likely 3rd) best season for position and second best for points, but it's not quite hit the highpoint enough. Apart from second half against man city and the whole chelsea cup tie/league game, our other high points at home have been beating Bournemouth (who are a great side) 15th place, 16th place with a rousing comeback and 17th placed with a 92 minute winner

I quite enjoyed the cup win over Newcastle as well personally.

I did say high points at home. Away would include both Newcastle (more structured performances), Everton (after a slow start) and Bournemouth (which we almost blew), man utd and Southampton perhaps. Ironically our best 45mins was Liverpool 1st half

Its amazing that a bang average season now gets us round about 10th in the premier league and our second biggest points total.

I mean, thats now bang average for Brighton?? Awesome!! Imagine what a really good season will be like :)

This old chestnut gets churned out after another game where we take the lead and throw the points away. A stat that’s unsurprisingly brushed under the carpet.
We did not throw the points away, the penalty came from a non foul free kick. Ref had a massive influence on the result yesterday

I have been quick, possibly too quick, to jump on our f*** ups this season. I have no complaints about Fab or the team yesterday. Newcastle deserved at least a point all things considered imo.

Like I say, we know what we're watching, while we're watching it. Same as we always did. And for large chunks of the season it's been pretty insipid, even if the stats suggest it's been pretty wonderful. Fact check: it hasn't been all that, however much you spin it with stats

That would be my assessment as well.

Defensively it was far better, if only FH could have adopted a similar approach to Brentford and some other games, but if only I’d had 6 different lottery numbers.

Isn’t that what TB aspired to when we got promoted an established top 10 team?
Feels like we are practically there.

He then suggested at Cheltenham he was hoping for more this season.

I’ve seen two of the most incredible goals I’ve ever witnessed on a football pitch , big wins v Newcastle , Chelsea and Man City and another double over Man Utd. Last minute wins v United, Fulham and West Ham , the Spurs comeback have been up there as Amex moments of all time - certainly not “insipid” or bang average. But of course there’s been a share of disappointments (Palace mostly) . But it’s also not completely down to the failings of others. But yes - we’re going to finish 11-8th - incredible given where we are for some, not acceptable for others.

There are three games to go and we have a shot at Europe. Admittedly that shot is contingent on Palace losing the cup final but it's a shot nonetheless.

I'm in the not particularly impressed with performances camp but I'm going to hold in the negative nancy-ing until the season is over. There's too much positive than can still be achieved to waste time and energy on the negatives right now.

Three games. Three results. The performances for those games are not important, the results are.

So come on, lets just do this and make Europe.
