Ok, we just 1-0 in effectively what was a pointless pre-season friendly.

No doubt people will be on here sooner rather than later moaning about this that and the other. Big deal.

That game was used to give some fringe players the opportunity and the welcoming return of two of our star players in Jimmy Mac and Glenn Murray. Also, Jake Wright - ok he looks a bit of his depth at left-back, but by the sounds of it, he was the best player on the park today at centre-back in his natural position.

People need to take a realistic look at the performance this evening and the positive returns of key players, not the result of what basically was a Tuesday evening friendly.

Top stuff, like I said on another thread, this will just be another excuse for the narrow minded anti slade gang to let out some hot air again. All in all, a useful evening for us from a squad point of view

I wouldn't agree it was a nothing game but we got plenty of positives out of it, in terms of game time, new tactics and an impressive performanceand that's what matters. Just need to convert these positives into a positive result at Huish Park on Saturday.

Totally disagree i'm afraid. Our only chance of Wembley and we fielded a reserve side.

Well, yeah, see where you are coming from I guess. But I'd still prefer to have players back fit for Saturday than have got through. I think we'll appreciate it come the weekend

Wait a minute. According to the majority on NSC last season, the Paint Pot was a distraction we didnt need and we should be focusing on getting ourselves out the relegation zone. What's different this season?

understand what your saying but the reserves nearly pulled it off which must count for something.

Sounded like a good team performance to me so hopefully some of the players tonight may feature more often in the first XI.

Exactly.

The trouble is we always look complete shit in pointless pre-season friendlies. Would expect to see some glimmer of A Plan Coming Together in those. 'Gelling' if you like. Doesn't happen though. Still not happening.

at least when we were losing every week last year we had the paint pot to at least give us some restbite

ah well, seemly losing to orient is a moral victory.....great. well done

We'll beat them when it matters - JPT is worthless which is why RS fielded players who needed a game.

total crap

we are a professional football team.

sometimes I wonder why I have supported this club for 35 years when I read posts like yours

Every season there's a minor disagreement about the merit of this competition.Chance to get to Wembley, etcetera. But I'd rather remember our trips to Wembley being in more esteemed competitions, and for me Wembley trip in this competition would sully the image of our other visits.

So my preference would be an end to this trophy, and that's been my view throughout the history of the competition in all its forms.

Other people have other views, and that's their right.Just don't think this is worth upsetting ourselves over.

Except that it is one more defeat and losing can become a habit-as it appears to be at the moment. Personally, I'd have preferred to see us win and start a winning run, regardless of what competition the win came from. Yes, it may be a tinpot trophy and it may have been a good opportunity to give a run out to a few players but I hate to see us lose in any frigging competition.

There was a litte bit of research into "we can concentrate on the league" statement a few years ago and by looking at results it came to the conclusion that teams play bad/well in spells whatever competition they are playing in.

Statistically, a loss in a little cup like game like tonight is fair measure of how well the team will perform in the next league game.

Pschologically (apparently) any loss is undesirable going into the next game.
