I'm quite sad that the ex-married couple have been knocked out as I found their back story really interesting.

It was tragic to watch. He clearly still wanted to be married to her. I found myself almost disliking her for stringing him along in her friend zone and giving him false hope.

Haven't watched this week's episode yet. Got a bit demoralised after last week where part of the trip got filed under "too difficult" and all the teams flew from A to B (without apparently impacting on their budget) which kinda undermines the whole purpose of the endeavour

I suspect it was not that it was "too difficult" but more that it was impossible to get permission/visas to film in the part of the world they dodged. Not everyone wants their beautiful vistas / creaking infrastructure showcased on TV across the world, and some countries are reluctant to let in broadcasters with a reputation for asking difficult questions, even if the programme is a bit of fluff about missing buses and finding yourself. I'm amazed and impressed that they managed to cover China and India at all - these are not easy places to travel to in a media capacity.

I remember Michael Pallins Around the World in 80 days didn't film crossing Saudi Arabia as they couldn’t get permission .from the Saudi authorities.
I think it was something to do with the execution by beheading of the young Saudi Princess.

Surely Africa has to be one of the next series, though there may well be a few political and other insurrections to dodge here and there so might not be ideal from that perspective!

I rather think that the reason the participants were forced to fly between those two points, was because the transport links in that region just weren't good enough, (or impossible), or because of the political situations in the areas involved.

Just one of those things, it certainly hasn't impacted on my enjoyment of the series.

I went to India 3 times in the 90s. First trip was backpacking, got really ill, upset stomach didn’t do it justice! Then I went back on 2 separate work trips and was there about 8-9 weeks in total, got better advice on where to eat etc and I didn’t even get a hint of an upset stomach even once, although colleagues on the trip with me did!

This is the worry, the backstory and " Mission Statements " are taking a bigger priority each series. The object of the program seems to be less and less important. The first couple eliminated cocked up, so tough.

Well yes but I really like the backstories. For me, they are what makes this different from other travel shows. I mean I like travel shows, but the 2 sisters talking about their superficial relationship, the brothers trying to flourish after a horror childhood, the naive Welsh kids who haven't seen any of the world and then being suckered in by the sight of Indian child beggars, and this ex-married couple's story - they are are what makes this show such a great watch (on top of the natural beauty they encounter). I thought the mum coming to terms with the fact that she needs to move on from defining herself purely and solely as a mother is something a lot of people (women in particular) can relate to, and as such it was great that she was talking about it and genuinely doing something about it.

We work Brighton and get used to the busy seafront, but a few years back decided to go to London a week before Christmas. Oxford St was packed and it was just a matter of going with the flow. She couldn't handle it. Less than an hour and we were out of the area and back to normality.

We work Brighton and get used to the busy seafront, but a few years back decided to go to London a week before Christmas. Oxford St was packed and it was just a matter of going with the flow. She couldn't handle it. Less than an hour and we were out of the area and back to normality.

I recall on a trip to Mumbai in the 90s being caught going against the flow of a sheer mass of humanity leaving a religious event on the beach and coming the other way as we were trying to get past them and get back to our hotel. One false move or a panic in the crowd and it would have been seriously dangerous- the police were just clubbing people like herding sheep, my colleague got hit by them too, it was completely indiscriminate.
That was seriously scary, we found a bar and took refuge for an hour but I'd not want to experience that again. But it's India, and the contrast to a small Welsh village couldn't be more extreme.

The welsh girl (won't even try to remember / spell her name) seems to be weeping her way around the world, which is starting to grate a bit. And I'm getting quite bored with the two sisters "finding themselves and exploring their relationship and boundaries", blah, but I suppose thats all part of it. The two brothers are great fun. I'd have been all over that zip wire like white on rice.

Good series, and some genuinely spectacular, eye-popping vistas. I'm a sucker for a travel show, and this is one of the best.
