[Albion] Question for those that live OUTSIDE of Sussex, how visible is your support of The Albion?

I have a nephew (Brighton fan) who lives in Manchester. One day he took his kids to football practice and there was one decked out in the full Albion kit. Are you a Brighton fan he asked? Nah, he said, my uncle gave it to me, he plays for ’em.

I fricking love Danny Welbeck! He was also kind enough to send my nephew a signed shirt.

Just north of Perth Australia and my daughter is very visible in her two brighton shirts at football training. 1 is last years home and the other is the hyper turq away from a couple of years ago. My 14 year old son just had his growth spurt so his shirt no longer fits his 6ft frame. Next birthday for him. I have only ever seen one other Brighton shirt and that was a young lad in Wembley (also north of Perth) who had a Caicedo home shirt last year.

My support is pretty invisible unless I go to the pub to watch a game. Then it's very apparent.

I have 2 or 3 Albion shirts that I often wear to my kickboxing lessons. This has sparked quite a lot of conversation. I'm not only surprised by how many people know the club but also how many people have visited Brighton in general.

Replica top for 6 a side, lots of clothes, badges and stickers about the place.

T-shirt weather and the tat kinda gives it away. Working around London QPR and Millwall fans are best for conversations as they know we’ve done the hard yards as supporters. A pissed of smirk generally from Arsenal fans as we tend to get right under their skin, Chelsea fans we will buy Mitoma and Baleba wankers, Fulham are just Fulham, don’t go to East or North London that often so not much conversation with spuds or West. Sham fans.

Just to lighten the mood, a question about how we’re perceived in other parts of the country.

If you live OUTSIDE of Sussex (and Brighton and Hove!!) how visible is your support, for example:

Is your car well stickered up?

Do you wear an Albion jacket, polo, hat etc when you go to your local pub or to work?

Do your kids, or even yourself wear a replica shirt at football training or out for a run etc?

Have you got a flag flying in your front garden?

or do you generally not wear colours and only declare your allegiance when asked?

No car stickers, I wouldnt mind a few, but dont want car to be targetted by any idiots.

Live in Midlands, everyone I know, knows I'm Albion. and I feel proud of our club when I tell others, which is anyone who will listen

Im not of an age or shape to be walking about in replica Albion tops.

And now hes Albion mad, always in his home/away kits, Albion hoodies, Albion caps etc

They’re handy for that! I used to like to show my allegiance when walking around a Mediterranean resort for example but seeing myself as too old for replica shirts etc when my son was younger he’d always wear the shirt.

Our Turkish barman last year would take a sneaky look at any club shirts then disappear to Google them, then come back strike up a conversation then “hilariously” claim to support said clubs rivals

On the subject of using one's offspring as surrogate advertisements of your club loyalty, round the age of 12, MissBC refused to wear Fulham merch unless accompanying me to a game. Then she refused to do that until last season when she started wearing my oversized 93-94 away shirt (red and black stripes, GMB sponsors) as it's apparently 'blokecore' or something. Anyway, I'm happy about it.

I lived deep in Palace territory for a couple of years. Not far from Croydon. Place called Molesey.

The worst place I’ve ever lived. Anyone who’s ever visited the Lord Hotham pub will attest to that fact. I once saw a car deliberately plough into the drinkers in the front garden in some sort of drugs dispute and a guy got stabbed in the stomach there. A couple of drug dealers had the landlord over a barrel with debt and used the pub to peddle their wears. It’s now closed permanently.



One thing about Palace supporters is they do like to fly the flag. I’m not exaggerating when I say every road in the area had houses with some form of CP merch in the windows and the cars.

I used to have a Skint era keepers top and took great delight in wearing it on my daily run.

I would deliberately run along the roads with the most red and blue tat in the windows.

I used to get shouted at by passing cars and on more than one occasion some knuckle dragger came out of their house to stare at me.

I have never before or since worn colours outside of the ground.

My stepbrother’s are both palace fans. One of which I can have a decent football conversation with and he’s a tolerant, fair fan. Doesn’t take the rivalry seriously.

The other becomes genuinely quite viscious. Thinks nothing of singing homophobic songs or saying homophobic things to me or the telly whenever we come on the screen.
