Qatar World Cup will move but not due to the weather

IMHO the weather issue is primarily a smoke screen for the World Cup dates being moved and alas it's really religion that means it was never going to take place in the summer.

Some of you may have heard about the Haj which is a huge religious event that takes place each year in Mecca. Every able bodied Muslim is supposed to make this Pilgrimage once in their lifetime and many millions travel from all over the world each year to attend. The actual Haj itself is only a few days but the whole event lasts just under 3 months from beginning to end as Saudi Arabia deals with the biggest air transportation event on the planet.

This years Haj is roughly from the beginning of September to late November. Each year it moves forward 9 or 10 days depending on the lunar calendar.

Thus in 2022 it will last from early June to late August and there is no way that a Muslim country will want to host a huge sporting event that clashes with an even bigger religious event, particularly where its neighbouring country is the host and such a close allay.

Another great decision by Mr Blatter and his cronies :(

One construction worker is being killed every day during the building of this project, and all people talk about is the weather and public/religious holidays

It's completely mental, how can governments and FAs stand by and ignore it?

Because they are stupid, and do not know how to work on a building site? That is what happens when farmers lie and get jobs as skilled construction workers.

Have you ever seen any of these people? They really are primative, and very, very stupid in the main.

They are 'stupid' because they are being given tasks to do for which they have recieved no training, and the sites are operating without any regard to standard safety practices? Really?

Even if we take what you have just said with a pinch of salt & without rising to the bait, should the builders then check more rigorously applicants work histories to say the least.....

Oh hang on they wont...... because if they have to pay the going rate for skilled workers they wont make any money and getting skilled qualified workers is going to hit the bottom line.

You can not even if you want to blame desperate people for taking jobs they are not skilled at you have to look at the employers. Even if you have deep rooted views anyway this is wrong and you know it stops at the top not the bottom.

I think we should tell FIFA to do one and set up our own federation - we gave the world the game - all we have to do is persuade the Germans, Italy, Spain, France, Argentina and Brazil to come and play an alternative world cup and the rest will follow - fed up with FIFA and their cronies and corruption. I mean a world cup in Qatar @ OVER 50 degrees

Couldn't we 'forget' to invite Spain, Argentina, Brazil and Germany, to give us a tiny chance of winning it?

Sadly none of the above will happen-football is too corrupt now.

That's exactly why it might happen.

What do the likes of ManUre, Barcelona, Bayern Munich etc need from FIFA anyway? What if they quite FIFA and UEFA and did their own thing?

Create their own European Super League, only answerable to themselves, what is the downside to not being part of FIFA for the clubs? Presumably their players would be excluded from FIFA and UEFA competitions, but that is International Football, and what big clubs wouldn't LOVE to have their players removed from International Football anyway. The fans of the "big" clubs generally don't care less about International Football anyway. The big money behind the League (Sky) don't go after the summer tournaments, so they clearly don't care about International Football either.

They may even draw up some sort of "International Tournament" between these break-away Leagues, featuring a representative side of the EPL, La Liga, Bundalisga and the Dutch League.

While I don't think that will actually happen, it may just sound plausible enough for FIFA to back track just in case. It happened with the Champions League, where UEFA agreed to completely over-blow the tournament to appease the clubs when they threatened their own Super League.

For what reason would the big clubs remain with FIFA, why does they actually need them?

The World cup and Euro HAVE to be shown on terrestrial TV which is why Sky don't bother to bid for them as they wouldn't have exclusive rights to it.

Sky obviously do care about international Football which is why they show Scotland, Wales and both Irish games all the time.

So who will have the balls to boycott 2022 world cup? If no-one watched it, it wouldn't go to places like Qatar.
Even if England withdrew, it would make no difference. It would take several of the larger footballing nations to be united against it to make a difference. If the public wanted to make a difference, they'd be better off boycotting all companies that sponsor the WC.

dont see the link. it makes near no consequence that some unrelated event is happening in a neighbouring country at roughly the same time, and Mecca is about 700 miles away from Qatar. its like saying we cant hold Football League games while the Oktoberfest is on.

they are talking of moving it because the original bid lied and said they would deal with the heat, but then they found it wasnt really practical after all. (to be honest, i wonder if Qatar actually expected to win and where just enjoying the junket of the bid process)

You are obviously as camp as your original namesake posting shit like that. "Kind" what has that got to do with factual? One day you will try to post something factual. How many of these types have you actually met - you know in the real world? They are like the humans in Planet of The Apes, totally different to the type of people that you live in Sussex. I was shocked when I first saw them. You are obviously assuming they sit within your view of life from cosy Eastbourne.
