Unfortunately the trend is still happening pubs are being closed for several reasons change in drinking habits greedy breweries screwing the landlords and the supermarkets have killed of most of the independent retailers in the high street now they moving back into the communities by opening shops in pubs like Sainsbury's local Tesco Express Morrisons etc money.

However Company's like Weatherspoon's are changing the trend but its a chain has no individual feel to them.
Good village pubs have had to build up its food sales to survive! Or go.

. Although I was pleased when the smoking ban came in that had another affect on some small pubs which didn't have outside areas for smokers and those that did then got complaints re noise.

I lived in Boston Road up until 1982, then again from '85-'86, so it was pretty much my local. Rough and ready I admit, but okay-ish.

The Pilgrim ( Golden Eagle ) was always a bit rough and ready but that was part of its charm. Back in the sixties and seventies groups played downstairs at the Grim. I wasn't a regular there myself just the occasional visit but some people I knew often went to see bands there.
Any memories out there?

Frog and Bucket out in the middle of nowhwere in the Kent Countryside north of Edenbridge. Great live music venue (even if some of the bands weren't) - anyone remember it?

Has the Hungry Years been mentioned, not strictly a pub I know.

My father, who has long since passed away, had his wedding reception at The Reeve in 1955.

There were 56 guests and the total cost was £22 and 5 shillings.

The George was a pub run by Knowlan family I can remember a couple of the managers before it became a Toby Carvery. One couple was Malcolm and Simone, another cantt remember his name but he acted as Churchill in Where Eagles Dare. Roy was definitely the manger when it was a Toby and when he decided to leave my mum left at the same time I would guess around 2006 ish. Just remembered Churchills name it was Lee Dilley.

sorry, i meant - the golliwogs went just before toby took over!!

i've got the wigmore pub sign in my back garden

I've got the one from the Three Crowns at East Preston - my son has it hanging in his room.

Bit manky as it spent a while as a pig sty roof at another closed pub: The Fletcher's Arms by Angmering station - although it was called the Old Coach House towards the end in 2011ish.

Does anyone else remember the Chinese Garden in Hurstpierpoint. I went there over 50 years ago on a mystery coach tour from Brighton?
