What's it worth to us? I'm sure I saw a figure of £1m - surely DK has to allow McGhee money for signings, unlike the Zamora sale scenario, as whilst I appreciate how important Falmer is, perhaps people are also realising how important Division 1 status is in ensuring continued interest in the club from both the media and our 'lost' supporters (from years away from Goldstone).

I just hope McGhee, for whom I have developed massive respect as a tactical legend, is given a decent crack at keeping us in Division 1.

I'd be interested in the wages we play.

Division 3 -> Division 2 - the players earn more.
Division 2 -> Division 1 - the players earn more again.
Division 1 -> Division 2 - did wages go DOWN after this relegation and, if not:

Division 2-> Division 1 - are the wages going up again?

I think that figure was what City thought it was worth to them, but since we can't get any more fans in our ground then the only extra we'll see is TV and sponsorship money.

Definately. Can't fault promotion in your first season in charge.:clap2:

I think there was clause in the contracts that if they were relegated from Division 1 that the wages would revert back to Division 2 level.

As to going back to Division 1 again, who knows. I don't suppose anybody expected such a roller-coaster 4 years.

:p

One of our most highest paid players is Geoff Pitcher who I know last season was on £75K a year coz of a claus in his contract linked to promotion pay rise! What a joke!

500k absolute tops I would guess, because we can't get any more fans into the ground and so it is limited to what we got out of cardiff (tickets and merchandising)

Then we have to pay Chelsea and Stoke for Knight/Iwelumo; and then pay everybody their promotion bonus.

I would hope (but don't know) that the increased TV money and Sponsorship revenue would cover the division one wage rises (n.b. they did get a relegation cut).

But then, with what is left from Sunday's payday we have to conside the £1m loss we almost certainly made again this year (and will almost certainly make next year). Zamora's sale covered the loss last time we were in Division One- but we haven't got that income again this close season.

In short, while he will get a rise in his playing budget, I supsect that, like his predecssors, McGhee will have to be canny with loans and free transfers - particularly until Falmer gets the nod and we can start borrowing against our future.

We have to pay ~£100K to Chelsea for Leon now. (Like they need it - tsk!)

And maybe a fee to Stoke City too?

Correct on both counts I believe.

I can't see there being much extra in the playing budget. The Falmer project is still more important.

we will surely make more on our gate receipts, even without the extra seats. In div 1 the away following will mean less returned tickets.
An extra 500 on each home gate at £20 a head us £10k a game, over 20 home games in the season thats another £200k. That must help!

It didn't make that difference last time!

A few figures from the accounts:

Year ending July 2002 (Div 2)

Gate Receipts - £2,129,532
Other Income - £2,756,190

Wages and Salaries - £2,272,493
.....28 players, 36 Management and Admin

Year ending July 2003 (Div 1)

Gate Receipts - £2,167,128
Other Income - £2,605,228

Wages and Salaries - £2,795,563
.....26 players, 44 Management and Admin

i agree but over the playoff time if we havent taken around that mark there is something wrong.

Since I NEVER doubt your source, CS, I make that an extra £728,000 a year on the wage bill (assuming 28 players).

The best estimate of the value of getting to Cardiff was about £500,000.

Add in a payment to Chelsea for Leon. Do the arithmetic and we are currently WORSE OFF than we were.

Got it, folks? The money we earned from winning the play-off final has already been FULLY committed. Don't expect a swoop into the transfer market. Unless we sell someone at a tidy profit.

Mind you, I'd rather it went on wages than transfer fees and agents' rake offs.
