They somehow decided the bloke who might have fouled someone but didn't, didn't play the ball so the player who scored who was in an offside position if he did, wasn't. And the ball that seemed to have no line underneath any part of the ball didn't go out of play. Or might have done but they weren't sure. Or Andy Madley was watching the racing.

Simple, really.
Having watched this on MoTD now - I see you have summarised it perfectly!

MOTD - crikey, what a disgraceful pen decision for the SUFC winner. Even Lineker could barely hide his disdain.

All agreed that it should’ve been a yellow for simulation.

Apparently the VAR official claimed there “was some contact” so upheld the error :wanker:

Don't think it was a penalty - but not sure the SUFC guy dived either. He got up immediately and didn't appeal - I think he just lost his footing.

Just watching MotD: Burnley are shockingly bad.

For anyone watching the repeat, Keown analysed Everton's positional play in and out of possession.

No analysis of the Albion at all.

Really? Even Owlface admitted Palace were a bit lucky today.

It was like The Keystone Cops in defence for Palace’s first goal. A team doesn’t lose 6 home games in a row without being terrible.

I mean the good thing at VAR is despite it undermining referees, changing the way the game's played, and annoying fans it's stopped all those complaints about dodgy or bad decisions

The commentary indicated it didn't look offside, then 0 analysis of it. (ran out of time due to of the amount Keown wittered on about nothing, for the Newcastle vs Arsenal game)
Or

Lineker decided he didn't want to undermine a hard earned point for his beloved Everton.

Interesting article on the Beeb about Arsenal. Sounds very similar to us. IE good start to the season but nowhere near the heights of last year and how much of that falls at the managers door....

Lovely goal by Forest to go 1-0 on Villa. The goal scorer placed the ball into the net from way outside the area, had the chance fallen to one of our players I feel , at the moment, they would have controlled it and shuffled it out wide etc.

The flag from the linesman there was one of the worst offside decisions you’ll see. The striker was in and you’ve got the lino saying he was sure he was off when he clearly wasn’t
