Former Spurs and Chelsea star Gus Poyet offered chance to take charge at Real Zaragoza

Gus Poyet is wanted by former club Real Zaragoza, a month after taking charge at Brighton.

Zaragoza, who sacked manager Marcelino at the weekend, see the Uruguayan as the man to revive their fortunes in the Spanish League.

Poyet made more than 250 appearances for Zaragoza in a seven-year spell in the Nineties before moving to England and playing for Chelsea and Spurs.

Victor Munoz To Take Over Real Zaragoza Hot-Seat - Report

Former Barcelona player, Victor Munoz is all set for his second stint in charge of Zaragoza...

Dec 16, 2009 6:32:30 PM

Former Spanish international Victor Munoz is all set to become the new coach of Real Zaragoza, according to Sport.es.

Zaragoza have been looking for a replacement since the dismissal of Marcelinho less than one week ago and the former Barcelona man is said to be all but guaranteed to become Blanquillos’ new chief.

It has been a busy week for club president Eduardo Bandres, who has reportedly already been turned down by Juande Ramos, Bernd Schuster and Michael Laudrup.

Reports suggest Munoz has already agreed to take the job with the length and terms of the contract being the only factors holding up the deal.

If confirmed, this will be Munoz’s second stint with Zaragoza, having guided the club to Copa Del Ray success in 2004 before departing for Greece with Panthanaikos.

Zaragoza currently sit third from bottom in La Liga, 14 games into their return to Spain’s top flight, and will be hoping that a change at the top will galvanise the squad.

He's not even begun to prove himself yet and if he's even thinking about walking away or getting his agent to talk to other clubs then maybe we'd be best shot of him. Hope to hear a strenuous denial from him later today

That's my thinking on it too. Unfortunately because its Poyet this will happen, its rather unsettling. We need some bloody stability, and Poyet needs to prove himself.

Personally, I think this is paper talk and an easy link to make. I think Poyet is quite settled in England. He has made his life here for quite sometime. His family must be fairly settled as well and he is also taking his UEFA pro licence here. If he hated the waether he would have been off somewhere a long time ago.

I dont think we need to worry about this.

I dont think he will make a comment either.

Poyet is not a man that hangs around anywhere very long - a few months at Swindon, a year at Leeds, a year at Spurs, a year out.

And as for that Argus interview, if you take it literally then it contains very little to reassure fans that he'll stay and quite a bit that could be taken as a sign he's leaving his options open.
