Looks like Di Canio is going to Sunderland.

At least that'll be a laff (although no doubt coutless Mackams will beg to differ). Can't wait to see how the Fascist nut-job gets on with a bunch of disinterested umpteen-grand-a-week players - who probably only know about him for having that pop at his centre-forward; pushing a Ref over; & walking out on his last managerial position. I can see him getting lynched if he takes 'em down.

What on earth has that got to do with it?

The rest of your points are fine, but the fact Sunderland have rivalry with Newcastle is not going to be a selling point for potential manager, and it's not going to be a point to choose Sunderland over saying with brighton for gus.

When you understand what a big rivalry means you would not question the point. Players and managers should live for derby days as much as fans.

Nonsense.

They live for success; trophies, promotions, etc. ideally they understand and embrace a teams rivalries, but a team's rivalry is not going to make one jot of difference when deciding who you want to manage. Sunderland have a lot of advantages over brighton for enticing a manager, the rivalry you have with Newcastle means nothing to any potential manager.

It won't be "well, Sunderland are offering me more money, they are in the premier league with a good budget so if I can't stop the free fall I would have plenty of money to spend to get us back up, and they have pedigree to entice some players who might not otherwise come to brighton, there's a decent sized crowd that will provide me a good player wages budget, and I think I could make a good go of it in the premier league, but all of that means nothing, what really swings it is those two games they will have with Newcastle. Ooh, I've dreamed of days like that." To suggest it is just makes you seem foolish.

Anyone who thinks Gus wouldn't be tempted by Sunderland and thinks that they aren't much different to Reading is completely and utterly deluded! And can't have been watching football very long. They are a HUGE club, I think they have the sixth or seventh highest average attendance in the country since football began. It's a fantastic job.

One last point is the history and even more importantly the rivalry - Palace and Brighton is not even anywhere near the same league as Sunderland Newcastle which is more than some stupid "hatred" which means nothing in reality where as the North East derby goes back centuries for the fights of industry.

Total and utter bollocks. I don't think a rivalry would ever play any role in the decision-making process of a potential manager, only to a tiny degree if he was a fan of the club that he was thinking about joining.

Good choice! He really made it. Well, I really had high hopes that he'll get that job and he deserved it.

I'm intrigued to know if he will go off into a rhapsody about wanting to be Chelsea manager at some stage before Sunderland play them in the Carling Cup. If he does I'll also enjoy the reaction from the Sunderland fans (I wonder if they'll be called bedwetters if they are none to impressed). Let's see how "honest" he is now he is managing a Premier League club, as "he is just being honest" was the excuse from Albion fans who didn't see anything wrong with his touting.

I wonder how long it will be when those same bedwetters start having a go at poor old Oscar when he says he would like to manage Barcelona

Oh wait hang on .....................

Are you really comparing Gus's blatant touting with Oscar's very occasional comments

Maybe when Oscar has been as successful with us as Gus was, he might start touting himself, who knows? I don't get the impression he's like that, I imagine he'd listen to offers and either accept or reject them. I don't see him talking about his ambition everytime he is in the spotlight or we play a big team. I may be wrong.

Anyway at the moment I'm more interested in seeing if Gus has learnt to evade questions/keep his mouth shut

]It was just watching the Albion of old in the 1st half[/B]. Looks like Gus has introduced Tika Takka to wearside.

I was thinking the same thing. Its bittersweet seeing Gus's Sunderland play so well 2day.

Brighton / Hove actually
Sunderland fans will also have to endure the last 20 mins of the games when they can’t get out of their own half when defending a lead. 4 shots compared to 17 sounds like a Poyet team but if it carries on working good luck to him.

Why on earth does Niall Quinn always commentate for Sunderland?

Most biased commentator I've heard in 20 years of watching football.
