This is a good piece

Grudge match: fans v police | UK news | The Guardian

I Remember lots of trouble at chelsea once , i saw a copper smash a 14/15 year old girl who wasnt involved at all( she was with what i take to be her father) in the face with his truncheon, teeth everywhere, an indepedent witness approached the inspector in charge to report what he'd seen to be told ' f*** off before you get the same ',and they have the cheek to wonder why they're hated

I think most of us have probably seen dodgy dealings. I think the worst thing is that they're now allowed to arrest you if you take a photograph of them so you can't even do that!

The Independent Police Complaints Commission initiated an investigation, and passed its file to the Crown Prosecution Service. The CPS did not prosecute the police officer named by Augur because, according to IPCC commissioner Nicholas Long, "the investigation could not identify conclusively the officer concerned".

No shit, there's a f***ing surprise :nono:

The article is thought provoking but completely 'one eyed', I'd be interested to read a (football) police response to it.

This sort of stuff pisses me off actually.

Admittedly I've not known the police behave like this at Withdean, and I haven't heard too many stories of police going OTT at Albion away matches over the past, say, 10 years.

However, when the police abuse - and it is abuse - their powers on the back of little or no evidence against an individual or a group, especially when they know that they are not answerable to anyone. This is pertinent when their burden of proof required to carry out their work is nothing compared to the burden of proof a civilian has to go through to prove the police's own sense of malice - THAT'S what irks me.

Football supporters within society today are unrecognisable to the perception of (to the rest of society EXCEPT the police) football supporters 30 years ago.

There is a police response in there...

Andy Holt, assistant chief constable for South Yorkshire, who heads the UK Football Policing Unit, says the tactic works: "It is hard-hitting, but it is proportionate – and it works. There are occasions when mistakes are made." Football violence has declined, he says, and banning orders are a key to that.

One, he is crediting the police and their powers (and by inference the abuse contained therein) with the reduction in football related incidents - thereby justifying the methods - when everyone knows - at the very least anecdotally - that football-related incidents have been down for 20 years or so.

In effect, he is saying that the ends justify the means.

Two, anyone else find it disturbing that of all people who should head the UK Football Policing Unit, it should be the ACC of South Yorkshire Police. Bloody SOUTH YORKSHIRE? The police force mostly responsible for the worst football-related incident in living memory...

Police at lower division games tend to be more relaxed although there were some pumped up twats at Northampton a few years ago you had "forgotten" to put their ID epaulettes on and whose colleagues thought deploying a Police Horse in front of children was a good idea.

Ipswich also seems to have a fair few uniformed little Hitlers who view Real Ale pubs as likely scenarios for a full scale off.

remember seeing Old Bill steaming into anything and everything at Aldershot in 1987. Saw a woman wacked in the face, punches to the ribs by nearly all the coppers who waded into our end.

Also remember a lad with a scarf on at the play off final 1991 was asked to remove it from his face, when he did the copper punched him fully in the face

I got a good kicking at an away game a few years back, two or three of them put the boot in.
Also my mate's daughter got a f***ing great whack across the back of her legs from a baton after Palace away.
Cunts the lot of them.

Was that the day the police horse ate the hanging basket outside a pub when we got frog-marched back to the station?

i got nicked at Fulham some years ago, in the back of the van the driver said to me " you've spoiled my supper you little shit ", i responded by saying " im not going to get any f*cking supper". At this point he tried to punch me in the face ,only to be stopped by the other copper in the front. Moments later the coppers in the back of the van with us ( 3 albion by the way ) proceeded to kick the shit out of one of the other lads... cnuts the lot of them

Would that be the game that we won 3-0 ?
We won 4-0 i think? You might be refering to the league cup game a few years before that? Also remember a few years back when we played pompey at home when old bill steamed into the railway bell and pepper sprayed everybody woman included and wacked everybody with their batons.

Whatever happened to Pc Beard, does anyone know? Remember him and his female colleague Downstairs Beard getting plenty of verbal from the North Stand, late 80's. Lol

On a more serious note,I recall a couple of heavy-handed coppers going totally ott at Kingstonian in Fa Cup,totally abusing their position on a few BHA fans who were causing no particular harm. All who intervened were battered too, wankers :-(

I got unnecessarily rammed into a gate, had a Germany Shepherd in one hand, and the scruff of my neck by the other (broke my Harrington Jacket  by Dutch OB at Nijmegen Away in 2008 - foreign police (bar German!) are far worse than the English police. Sometime wish our OB would treat foreign fans the same way as they treat us.

When I went to Sevilla for the UEFA QF's in 2006/2007 ( the day after Italian OB steamed into United fans in Rome ) and the OB that day were horrendous. Most scared I've ever been at football (only 14 at the time) , but in a way, I'm glad I saw it - as I know I'll never see worse in this country..Spanish OB in balaclavas underneath their helmets (brave), weilding leather whips, batons, etc steaming into anyone and everyone, for absolute no reason...men, women, kids...and I even saw a bloke in a wheelchair get hit .. Disgrace. ( Crowd trouble mars Sevilla-Tottenham tie - Europe - ESPN Soccernet )

( BBC SPORT | Football | Europe | Tottenham accuse Spanish police ) - about the disabled bloke..

What did UEFA do. ? Yeah, you guessed it. f*** ALL
