Always wondered why people bother with the sign saying "No tools stored overnight ".

Do they really believe that every thieving scallywag will accept that statement at face value and move on to the next van they spot not making the declaration. "Sorry mate don't mind I break in and check".

Almost as daft as "Baby on Board "which must surely to translate to "otherwise please feel free free to drive like a complete tool as you will only possibly endanger the lives of adults "

Yesterday I was sitting behind a van with writing all over it for Check-a-trade ... But I couldn't see anything to say what the drivers actual business was (maybe he was a sign-writer !)

There's a locksmith in Winchester who drives around with a caricature of himself on the side of his van. Not sure why you would choose to do that?! He is a top guy though so I will forgive him.

The baby on board signs tend to offend me - because the only time I usually notice them is when I am being cut-up by the person driving the car. If you don't care enough about the baby that is on board to drive safely, why bother putting up a sign?

Would the child car seats not give it away? What if you don't have a sticker, would they not look for your child?

Lets hope if you do have a crash that a) the sticker doesn't fall off, and b) if you crash your back window is visible so the fire service can see the sticker.

I phoned one of those numbers once, and they claimed that the reg no, which I was reading off the back of the lorry (my wife was driving), did not belong to them.

Why did you not tell your wife when she got home to be careful when driving lorries?

So they wouldn't if there wasn't a sign? Also what is to say the baby is on board at the time? Could be counter productive surely?

So yes it's daft in my eyes. All they make me think is well done, you've re-produced, something we've been doing and will continue to do for centuries! That said I guess it's only the same as the folk that came on here and boast about going to games of football.

Great idea as long as you remove the sign when there is no baby on board, otherwise the fire service will be wasting precious time looking for babies that are safely tucked up indoors !!!

As for the "baby on board" sign, I used to think it was a waste of time, until I became a father myself. Then I realised it's actually saying ...

"I'm knackered, my head hurts, I'm sleep deprived, and may well have a screaming child in my ear right NOW. At lights I may be slow pulling away because I'm reaching into the back trying to locate the toy that will stop the screaming. Please, just cut me a little slack. Think of it as a P Plate, if you like. I'm just not at my absolute best. Sorry."

What about those stickers people used to have in the 80s, eg "Don't laugh, your daughter may be inside!" and "Traffic wardens are nice people! PS: back in 5 minutes!" I thought they were hilarious when I was 10.
