I think this is a match when people are taking what Bissouma is doing for granted but I think the job he is doing needs bigging up. He is playing alongside Lallana, a bloke with quality oozing through his veins but who will get subbed and cannot put his body on the line.

Biss has to do it all, and he does but, crucially, he does it with more energy and tempo than Stephens or Propper ever could, and this is one of the reasons why we are a more potent side.

Agree Covers so much ground and so many tackles. Any of you Stat people know how many tackles he makes compared to others

For all of you doing down Maupay - most of you.
Sure his game should be about scoring goals, but if he can't do that the least he can do is set them up.

Solly isn't scoring this goal without Gross and Maupay.

Indeed.

It's Maupay who holds up the ball and gives it to Lallana for the killer pass and Welbecks goal.
Very underrated player is our Neil.

I think thats what I miss , not watching games 'live' the work players out in off the ball that the camera misses.

This. He might be misfiring in front of goal at the moment but he always works his nuts off and makes a contribution. The goals will come.

Edit. Just heard Shearer singing his praises. He knows more about striking than all of us on here put together.

So glad that MOTD has highlighted the partnership of Welbeck and Maupay, they are going to score a few between them this season.

Anyone who has marked Neil Maupay on less than a 7, really knows as much about football as, well , Martin Keown.

Everyone had a good game (apart from Webster obviously)

I could watch Bissouma all day long. Great player and complements Lallana very well indeed. Really hope we can keep Lallana fit bar little niggles.

Gross very assured yesterday too.

Ryan - 7 - made a couple of decent stops but wasn’t really worked much
Lamptey - 8 - a real threat in the first half. Quite how Traore didn’t get booked I don’t know. Dead on his feet at the end.. .unlucky
White - 8 - an excellent, versatile performance. One great tackle
Dunk - 7 - patchy, but largely a typical Dunk performance
Webster - 7 - blocked off by an offside player for the goal
March - 9 - some incredible distribution, disciplined defending and a top corner finish with his weak foot
Bissouma - 7 - thought this one passed him by a bit but that’s because he simply worked hard and won a lot of ball
Lallana - 7 - great ball for the goal. Hope he’s okay for next weekend’s love in
Gross - 7 - so underrated. Great crossfield ball for the second
Maupay - 7 - worked so hard. Love to see him winding up annoying teams like Villa
Welbeck - 8 - I was delighted when we signed him, even more delighted after the last two games. Just what we needed

Veltman - 7 - when is an elbow to the throat not a red? When Jack Grealish is within 10 feet of the incident
Burn - 6
Molumby n/a

Potter - 10 - I looked at their line up and thought if we could pack the midfield and contain them we’d get chances on the break because that back 4 is pony. His plan worked perfectly. Very pleased for him and thank god justice was done at the end

Nice to see someone give Maupay a half way decent mark. Shearer picked out how well he and Welbeck worked together, and i think he probably knows something about forward play.

Agree re Shearer though the pundits rarely watch a full game, so would have missed the opportunities where Maupay didn’t attack the space.

I know I’m in a minority, but I’m just not sure about Maupay, strikes me as quite lazy at times especially if he hasn’t started a game well. (not seeing the hard work you allude to on a consistent basis). Also, his touch is a bit 50/50.

Trouble is I’m probably thinking we should have Pele, Messi or Cristiano starting [emoji2]

He seems to be building a good understanding with Welbeck. Watkins anonymous by comparison

Though Watkins did a lovely couple of clipped crosses in the second half which we cleared.

Surprised no-one has mentioned White’s excellent challenge in the first half

So Webster has gone from being great (post lockdown) to now being a liability ?

Was no worse than Dunk today (who had a shocking first half) ..... plus Webster has again been moved position which can’t be helpful. The whole back 5 need a settled run as a unit, be surprised if we’ve played the same personnel and system more than two games in a row this season.

Maupay isn’t having a great run in front of goal at the moment but is working hard and involved in pretty much everything that we do that’s good. Making a few wrong decisions in the quest for a goal at the moment but no different to any other striker who is short of a few goals. What is more important is his partnership with Welbeck and how that is developing.

Good performance all round I thought... defensively nervous and panicked at times but some very good performances from March, Welbeck, Tariq and Groß.

He's looking better every game.

Credit to Barber-Out we absolutely robbed Leeds.

.

Would agree him and Dunk were both dreadful in the first half, but Dunk, IMO, was a lot better in the second, whereas Webster struggled.

Think based on this season Webster would still be in the top 5 for player of the season.

Wasn’t he signed as a left sided CB though, so not an unfamiliar position?

Ryan - 8 Lovey save/boot away with his feet.

Webster - 6 Blocked for their goal but too much wayward passing.

Dunk - 6 Rusty and then very solid but the end. He was horrific during Villa’s triple chance in the 1st half but that was due to the long period of time he has been off.

White - 7 Best of our defenders. The last ditch tackle to stop Watkins in on goal was world class.

Lamptey - 8.5 Our best player until he finally succumbed to Grealish’s diving antics.

March - 8 Another solid game and he is scoring at last. We’ll need another four or five of those this season Solly!

Bissouma - 6 Struggled to rule the centre as Potter had him outnumbered in the middle so that we could play two Strikers.

Lallana - 7 Some slick passing in the first half, top level vision and awareness for the Welbeck assist.

Gross - 7 I didn’t think he was great defensively and positionally but Potter knew that and gambled on his quality passing and potential assist making. The gamble paid off.

Maupay - 7 A Stephens like performance in that most on NSC did not recognise his affect.
He worked so bloody hard and linked up with his teammates brilliantly. Just needs a goal.

Welbeck - 9 He has height, pace, strength & power and showed it today with amazing movement and intelligent link-up play but he grabbed the points from me today by using his sand wedge whilst running in on a top class keeper and producing a world class finish.

Subs:

Veltman - 7 Solid enough. Got elbowed in the neck and no one cared.

Burn - 6 No mistakes.

Molumby - 6 Premier League debut.

Potter - 9 He picked a team and style that Smith did not expect. We sat back and hit Villa on the break playing percentage football. Genius.

I thought they swapped myself.... Webster was ok at start and got worse, Dunk started awful and grew into the game.

Your right he is comfortable at LCB... my point was I think in 9 games he has now played in all 3 CB positions and been moved on several occasions to cover firstly for White moving into midfield and then Dunk’s suspension. Just think the back 3/5 need to have a settled run as a unit as we’ve made so many changes to the personnel in 9 games, although now with Lamptey suspended will mean yet another change.

First game this season when ‘Leeds Ben White’ or similar hasn’t been mentioned.

The previous record was 42 mins vs Tottenham

Now you mention it, I've either become immune to the noise or they didn't get a mention on my commentary, either.

You'd have thought Leeds would have worked harder to keep him.

Yes we do. Hopefully Veltman will slot in.
