Bridcutt and the whole defence did exceptionally well today, Reyes is class! I would give all of them an 8
Sparrow was energetic and linked play well, Vincelot got in some good tackles and distributed the ball well without fuss. Both 7.5
Noone was in and out of the game got muscled off the ball a few times, CMS' first touch let him down on occasions but put in his usual work rate, both 7.
Barnes was the let down for me, not sure he is at his best playing right side midfield, 6.

Intereting there was no Harley or Navarro on the bench?

Harper 6 Didn't have a lot to do but looked calm, confident, and in charge. Not as good at distributing the ball from feet as Ankergren but not sure that is entirely a bad thing and anyway with time he will improve

Jara 7 Good positional sense at fullback and has an excellent eye for a pass. Quick and controls the ball well. Very good addition. When he went down injured I thought it was a cruciate at first but he seemed to run it off whatever it was so hopefully Tanno coming on was just a precaution

Greer 6 No criticism. He was solid but his positioning wasn't as assured (but remember he had a new partner and settling takes time) and his passing was not as accurate as it can be. Birmingham countered our playing from the back better than some teams so Gordon had less chance to bring the ball forward than usually. Rugby tackle for his booking could have been more severely punished if Painter hadn't also been in a position to cover.

Calderon 7 A couple of early nervous stutters but came through with a very assured performance. Good in the air although not challenged by too many high balls. Good strong tackles and one very good block. Well disciplined and only got forward once for a shot well over the top

Painter 7 Always a question about his pace but his positional play is excellent and he distributes the ball well

(Tarrico) 6 Shocked he was selected but when he came on he helped us maintain shape in the last ten minutes which is a time we have made mistakes recently. No question he still has a role to play

Sparrow 6 Limited impact but a couple of good defensive interceptions. When he did get ahead of the ball which is his strength the attacks always seemed to break down before he could get near the ball in an area to hurt the opposition

Noone 6 A couple of trademark jinking runs and some good break up play in midfield and defense to prevent Birmingham getting forward. A couple of shots from distance blocked but little else. Got the ball over from corners but no variation and for once no short corners

Bridcutt 8 Worked hard. tackled well. Distributed the ball well. Did nothing wrong and had one shot which if it didn't overly trouble Myhill was at least as near as we came

Vincelot 6 I have wanted to see him in midfield again and he did okay without shining. Can break up play but lacks genuine pace and was left for dead a couple of times when Burke ran past him.

Barnes 6 Ran and ran and did all that was asked of him in a support role and then as an out and out midfielder. For someone who had been left out of the side until ten minutes before kick off and whose place is under threat his attitude was fantastic although as an attacking force which is what we expect of him, he had no impact at all. Unfortunately doing what the manager asks of you doesn't always win brownie points from fans.

CMS 6 Not a good day for him really. Couldn't find space and when he did the ball couldn't find him. Got one very good chance from 20 or so yards and passed it wide of the post trying to place it in the corner. Noticably perked up when Paynter came on to take some of the weight

(Paynter) 6 Put himself about and looked like he could help CMS to find the space and the opportunities to score. It'll be interesting to see him start a game and to see if he is fit because he might just be a very useful asset indeed.

Just to explain my marking system - I use 6 as "average/acceptable" with anything higher being correspondingly above average to excellent and anything lower being appropriately poor................... I understand people giving very high marks all round but it sometimes seems to be an overly rose-tinted view and all that happens is that 7 to 7.5 replaces 6 as the average. I don't think anyone today had a particularly poor game - it was a solid all round team performance without anything very much exceptional about itand no real stand-out performances although some were a little better than others and Bridcutt was (for me anyway) the stand-out player for his consistency in every aspect of his game

Harper 6 - Didn't have to do anything really.
Reyes - 8 - Thought he was superb again, nobody got passed him, and put in some huge tackles again.
Greer - 8 - Looked very solid again.
Calderon - 7 Was a bit worried seeing him start at CB, but he coped very well.
Painter - 7 One of his better performances this season, very rarely got beaten, and great positioning and distribution.
Noone - 8 - Our most dangerous player again for me, they couldn't cope with him. Needs to pick out our players more though.
Bridcutt - 9 0 Best player on the pitch. Good tackling and passing as ever. I still can't believe he outjumped Zigic twice!
Vincelot - 7 - Nothing spectacular, but did everything that was asked of him.
Sparrow - 6 - A bit disapponting seeing as he's impressed me lately. Gave the ball away a bit too much but was putting in some good tackles in the middle.
Barnes - 5 - I can't remember him doing a thing, poor again imo. No sign of a partnership between him and Mackail - Smith
Mackail - Smith - 7 - Lookd dangerous, but didn't really threaten until Paynter came on.

Tarrico - 8 - Played very well when he came on, looked comfortable against good opposition.
Paynter - 8 - Changed the game when he came on, shame he wasn't given longer really. His partnership with Mackail-Smith looked promising, hope to see him start on Tuesday

PS: who was playing the central midfield role? Bridcutt or Sparrow?

I think Reyes was excellent but Barnes is a less than competent midfielder.

Feel sorry for Barnes, his workrate was fantastic yesterday. Put in some good challenges, got in decent areas but final ball was lacking at times. His confidence seems low, there was one point in the second half where he had the ball just outside their penalty area but instead of shooting he played it (too) wide to CMS instead. I think a confident Barnes would have taken a shot instead.

Have to disagree. Thought Barnes workrate was good and he layed on two best chances which were not taken.
Overall I think the whole side played well and deserved one point if not more.
Surprising we ended up with only 4 subs including Tarrico who retired about a fortnight ago. Must have taken a very thin squad, saving costs on the hotel?

This place (and our fans in general) do seem to be unfair on him. Barnes gets criticised for his misses, then he passes to set other people up and they miss and he gets criticised because they didn't score. Radio commentators suggested Paynter coming on helped him as much as CMS, but that seems to not be reflected here. At the West Ham game he was being criticised by people around me whenever Sparrow or Dicker made a mistake. It is ridiculous.
