does this mean we have some funds to get another player?

Illness forces Piercy to retire

Piercy' has been forced out of the game through illness
Brighton midfielder John Piercy has been forced to retire because of a stomach illness, just three days after his first start of the season.
Piercy, 26, has been suffering from colitis, an inflammation of the colon, for the last three years and has quit after consulting club doctors.

A Brighton club spokesman said: "It is affecting his energy levels and he just cannot train properly."

He looked to be on his way back after starting the 3-1 defeat against Crewe.

Oh my god; that is sad news. He was only 25.

Maybe the players should try and arrange something for Piercy's benefit.

If a player retires through injury surely the club doesn't pay him off!!!!

I am sure there is some kind of insurance that clubs take out on Injured players. Its not the clubs fault that piercy has retired so why should they have to pay out?

I think I can remember an Insider comment that player insurance was prohibitively expensive - please someone correct if I've remembered wrongly.

Piercy was a bit of a grey area though, he could have struggled on playing but came to a mutual agreement with the club to stop - I think that reflects credit on his honesty.

He came to a financial arrangement with the club, presumably a proportion of his outstanding contract.

So logically there will be some money left over out of that for future signings and loans.

But it doesn't change the overriding fact that the club can't afford to gamble silly money on either wages or transfer fees for a player who might not be worth that - I trust McGhee's judgment on how he will spend what money he has.

North Portslade actually
I thought the way he was singled out by some last Saturday was a disgrace. OK he wasn't match fit but did OK. A small minority of fans are starting to turn the clubs fans into a bunch of Victor Mildrews who moan more than Spurs fans!
