Illness forces Piercy to retire
Piercy' has been forced out of the game through illness
Brighton midfielder John Piercy has been forced to retire because of a stomach illness, just three days after his first start of the season.
Piercy, 26, has been suffering from colitis, an inflammation of the colon, for the last three years and has quit after consulting club doctors.
A Brighton club spokesman said: "It is affecting his energy levels and he just cannot train properly."
He looked to be on his way back after starting the 3-1 defeat against Crewe.
