I remember that 0-0 away at Spurs, we nearly won it Paul Clark smacked a thunderbolt which Daines (Spurs goalie) just turned round the post ! also I think we were the first team to stop Spurs 100% home record that year.

Great days !

The last 3 matches that season drew over 30,000!

15/4/1978 Brighton & Hove Albion v Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 32,647 Division 2

25/4/1978 Brighton & Hove Albion v Charlton Athletic 1-0 31,203 Division 2

29/4/1978 Brighton & Hove Albion v Blackpool 2-1 33,431 Division 2

The Blackpool game was such a let down as we found out on a little transistor radio that Tottenham and Southampton played out a 0-0 draw and denied us promotion! I think its also the biggest crowd I was ever in at the Goldstone. We got 32k+ againts West Ham and 30k+ against Charlton the following season, but once we got into the first Division I think the capacity reduced to about 29K.

Happy days indeed!

Bring back terraces NOW!

Look carefully at the crowd numbers we had in those days and show your kids and tell them one day we will be that big again!!!!!

Brought back a few memories Brighton Rock. That last game listed Tottenham (a) was one of my all time favourites. 48,000 crowd. Paul Clarke played a blinder. Cheers.........

Actually we were 1-0 down after 89 minutes. We'd been outplayed, they missed some good chances and also hit the bar with Mosely beaten all ends up. For some odd reason Mullery threw on Eric Potts with very little time off. Some how or other he score an equaliser in the last minute and the scored a winner in the dying seconds of stoppage time.

Crowd went mental !

We were 2-1 up at half time with goals from Paul Clark and Graham Winstanley. The third goal was scored in the 72nd minute by Eric Potts

51 arrests
85 casualties
20 in hospital
teams off the pitch for 14 minutes plus a further 5 minutes later in the game

led to fences being put up

Break! erm.. you two are talking at cross purposes, Expresso about the Sunderland game (and Stoke, same thing happened with super-sub Potts) while Hiney is referring to the Spurs game.

My dad took us to the Spurs game, never been so bloody scared in all my life.
We (me and brothers) asked him to leave early and he refused, saying I'm not letting these hooligans chase me out.

Nice sentiment and all that, but I was only 8!
