If I remember rightly, I might be wrong but didn't Taylor take over a tream that was already winning so he didn't actually have that much to do.

Yes, Peter Taylor won us Division 2, yes of course i'm thankful, except his style of football wasn't one i agreed with, yes it got us results, but his long-ball and defensive style was just plain boring. The whole time he was with the Albion i'd never slate him, but the circumstances under which he left is what pisses me off. He knew before he took the job what our facilities and cash situation was, his reason for joining us was simple, we were already near, or at the top of the table when he joined. He took us on to win the league, which to be honest at least 46 of the other Nationwide managers could have done with what was already a successful side, and then left thinking he could take a higher job, HE USED US. And now he's seeking the consequences.
The fact is, that he simply used us to get what HE wanted, and for that i cannot be thankful to him.

Fluffster - your a little misguided my friend if you don't think that every single manager we ever have is " using " us. Steve Coppell is doing it, Micky Adams did it, Brian Horton did it - why are you not slagging them off, at least be consistant !.
If a manager does well he will look for a better offer. Coppell did it for 6 weeks when he was in Thailand waiting to see if a better offer would come up.
Brighton are a stepping stone club to greater glory and will be until we get Falmer and realise our Premiership potential. Then the boot will be on the other foot and we can be the users.

Taylors tactics were very simple. Score a goal whilst playing well and then defend, even if that means for the remaining 89 minutes. Far too negative. Fair play to the man, he got us promoted, but I feel his skill in that was to not really change the team.

NO, Micky Adams did not use us. He did a great job as manager for Brighton & Hove Albion and then got the break he deserved, but he did not accept the managers job here LOOKING for a bigger job. Peter Taylor's intentions were obvious, take over a team which were top of the league and use us to get a better job.
Micky Adams, and Steve Coppell haven't quit their jobs as managers to apply for jobs in a higher league. Unlike Peter Taylor, he won us the Championship, then quit from his job because he thought he could get a better one elsewhere.

Taylor left because he felt the budget given to him did not allow him to have any chance of competing in Div 1 with a view to keeping us up. If he had he would have stayed. I suppose you can say history has proved him right.
Do not delude yourself, Fluffster, that Adams or Coppell care about this club, certainly not in the way you and I do, it is a job, pure and simple. If something better comes up , off they go. Sure they will have fond memories of their time at the club but its one of many clubs they are involved with during their careers as player and manager.
We however only have involvement in 1 club, that is the difference.

Gareth, you're wasting your time. I wholeheartedly agree with you but plenty of Albion fans cannot accept that PT left because he knew the team was not good enough without investment.
This was pre the final collapse of ITV digital , which was a godsend to us because all the teams already in Div 1 would have had money to spend. DK would have put it all towards Falmer (I'm not dissing him for that). We ended up competing with teams who were in financial disarray because of ITV digital and had to offload players. At the time PT left he could not have known this and was 100% right in his assumption that the team wasn't good enough.
PT left without securing employment elsewhere unlike MA who used us as a stepping stone (and has since admitted it). He had the courage of his convictions and to hear him slagged of for it ,is a sad reflection on the blinkered and bigoted Albion fans who do not seem to understand that we owe him as much, if not more than he owed DK for appointing him.
Neither PT nor MA were or are Brighton fans , so why expect them to behave as if they are?
The comments about his tactical ability, or apparent lack of it are
laughable. Don't you remember the number of games that we won or drew because of PT's tactical ability? His ability aligned with MA's team are what won us a championship, what more do you want

However, at least he gave DK plenty of notice, and had DK done the right thing and appointed Coppell straight away we'd still be in Div 1.
We're about to find out just how hard it is to win this division as champions. Getting back into Div 1 was a massive boost for the status of this club, it put us back on the football map and Taylor deserves a lot of credit.

Mickey Adams signed a contract when manager, thereby ensuring the club were able to get compensation when he left to take on a PREMIERSHIP club.
Peter Taylor REFUSED to sign a contract. It was sitting on the table, awaiting his signature for 8 months. He was happy to work on a week to week basis.
Now that tells me a number of things.
When he joined, MA knew he would be at the club a number of years, PT knew he would only be at the club a matter of months.
Did PT leave to take a better offer, or even any offer ? No, he just upped and left.
Now people say that lengths of contract are irrelevant in football, but it represents a guarentee of future employment ( and salary ) so something must have been going on in the back of PT's mind regarding getting back into the England set-up.
I think PT is a good 1st or 2nd Div Manager, certainly not up to Premiership standard though. But he never seemed particularly committed to the club, the fans, or the board of directors.
