Look forward to seeing reactions when Hamas take control of an Israeli vessel in a military assault, whilst in international waters.

I'd like to hear the Israelis version of the story before jumping to any conclusions. It wouldn't be the first time a so called innocent vessel was carrying something or some one it shouldn't have. For example the Lusitania has been accused of carrying munitions when it was torpedoed and there's evidence that supports that.

I think we all know the reaction. They will get another battering!

No, people like you will be screaming hysterically about 'terrorists'.

They are very good at giving batterings to civilians in Gaza, with phosphourus artillery shells, killing journalists, kids throwing stones, and attacking aid ships in international waters. Didnt do so well against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Never far away!

Apparently there were were a number of Palace fans on the ship.............?
Well done Israel.

But seriously...............

Israel Defence Forces (IDF): Soldiers were met by well-planned lynch, concealed handguns.

Armed Navy ships were escorting boats from the Gaza protest flotilla to Ashdod on Monday afternoon, hours after IDF soldiers and activists clashed in a fatal raid.

International activists aboard the ships opened fire on IDF soldiers who boarded the ships to prevent them from breaking the Israeli-imposed sea blockade, the IDF said on Monday.

According to the IDF, the international activists “prepared a lynch” for the soldiers who boarded the ships at about 2 a.m. Monday morning after calling on them to stop, or follow them to the Ashdod Port several hours earlier. no 1 Why were they trying to board a ship in International waters?
no 2 How is a 'lynch' planned in the narrow confines of a ship? (not syain it can't be done, mind)
no 3 How does this stand with one İsraeli source saying they were met with gunfire and another ısraeli source saying it all started when one protester tried to take a gun (with live ammo) off a soldier and it went off.

What? You remember when Labour where in office and Isreal invated Gaza, how long did it take for the Labour Government to condem the violence?

I normally support Isreal. But boy do they do themselves no favours. I think this could be the final straw for me. Insedently, the Isreali President is talking to Obama tomorrow at a time when US-Isreali relations are low already.

I've always thought that israel has the right to exist inside secure international borders but their treatment of the palestinians makes anyone shake their heads in despair.

Except of course for some nutty fundie xians who think that everyone else is wrong and israel are doing precisely the right thing.

Expect NO public condemnation and much behind the scenes support from this wonderful Tory govt.

People have needlessly lost their lives in yet another pathetic Israelie action and all you seem to care about is whether the horrible tories mention anything!! Anyway see below for the answer.

UK Foreign Secretary William Hague said he "deplored" the loss of life on the flotilla and was seeking more information and urgent access to any UK nationals.

In a statement, he said: "There can be no better response from the international community to this tragedy than to achieve urgently a durable resolution to the Gaza crisis.

"I call on the government of Israel to open the crossings to allow unfettered access for aid to Gaza, and address the serious concerns about the deterioration in the humanitarian and economic situation and about the effect on a generation of young Palestinians."

The six-ship flotilla, carrying 10,000 tonnes of aid, left the coast of Cyprus on Sunday and had been due to arrive in Gaza on Monday. Israel had repeatedly said the boats would not be allowed to reach Gaza.

IDF chief stresses only 1 of 6 ships carried extremists.

Despite reports to the contrary, Israel maintains an ongoing humanitarian corridor for the transfer of perishable & stable food items to Gaza. This conduit is used by internationally recognized organisations including the UN & The Red Cross. Well over a million tons of humanitarian supplies entered Gaza from Israel over the last 18 months equalling nearly a ton of aid for every man, woman & child in Gaza.

Although the media, world leaders & humanitarian agencies would like the world to think otherwise, international law does not require Israel to supply Gaza with fuel & electricity orany other materials, goods or services. Israel is only required to not to interfere with consignments sent by others, which it does.

Israel had repeatedly stated that the flotila of ships could sail to Ashdod, a large port north of Gaza. There the aid would be checked & transported to Gaza by land. The flotilla decided otherwise & hence were met by the IDF to steer the boats to Ashdod. When some of the militants on board elected to revert to violance, they were no match for the Israelis.

Loss of life is always sad, but if some of these people elected for a fight/violence/martydom then so be it.

The ships will be taken to Ashdod & the aid taken by road to Gaza

You may be right with 90% but were you MUST be wrong is that there were Israeli soldiers expectşing to fire live ammunition in the middle of the night with scared and agressive protesters..... anywhere in the wolrd this would be met with condemnation... have we forgotten Menzies so easily? And THAT is the point here.

I've been to Palestine and Israel and there are idiots on both sides. But you expect a government with its huge multitude of resources to be able to effect a peaceful solution ...not just 'If wolrd famous novelist henning menkell carries a gun, shoot him!' I expect that from Hamas... not a civilsed government. What about blockading the port for example?

This does seem like a very plausible explanation. Try to remember that Israel is surrounded by enemies and they(the Jews) have been persecuted for centuries. I do not agree with a lot of what they do but anybody who knows English history will have to accept we have taken the law into our own hands many times in the same period of time.
