We should have won at least a couple of medals in the womens swimming as one of our women was fastest in the world this year, and Pippa Funnel should have got a medal in the horse jumping, but both failed and were greeted with ridiculous praise and excuses dished out.

. [/B]
actually pippa funnell did get a medal she got bronze after the court of sports arbitration disqualified the gold medal winner bettina hoy for crossing her tracks !!!

What annoyed me was the BBC commentators trying to almost make the effort of the Japanese girl who won as being negative and devaluing the whole race.

Yes I accept we were all very much pro Paula but she didn't win and someone else put in a great effort to win so deserves praise.

Our other two female marathon runners did not quit just cos they were outside the medals. Perhaps Paula has become a prima donna of the Kieron Dyer variety

One commentator mention her prehaps running in the 10,000metres, but I don't think she will bother.

Paula will still get my vote in the Sports Personality. This may well be her last Olympics, and her acheivements have been fantastic. This course was never, according to Brendan Foster this morning on BBC, suited to her or many european runners, due to its uphill nature and the heat.

If she does retire I for one will wish Paula all the best.

Funny how she dropped out as soon as she was overtaken, just like Denise Lewis yesterday. f***ing quitters.

Spot on Kylie. She was leading, a position which she is used to, but as soon as she dropped to third place it seems she lost heart for the battle to regain the lead. Gave up I feel.

hmm really? didn't see it on the Beeb but from what I read the Japanese woman put in a massive effort. She also collapsed after winning and had to be taken off for treatment.

Don't usually expect the BBC to be too biased in Sports. Its just not cricket!

The actual course is mainly uphill as well. It would probably have been better to run the course from Athens to Marathon rather than the other way round.

Ah, but that wouldn't have had the same historical significance.

No-one's mentioned Tracey Morris who was a weekend fun runner a year ago and is still not a full-time athlete. She completed the course and finished 29th. She's an example to us all.

True.

Not forgetting the original messenger dropped dead after delivering his news.
