Parking in Falmer Village

There's a Public Notice in today's Argus that sets out the proposals for East Sussex County Council's new Parking Scheme in Falmer Village.

In summary:-

Three types of space - No Waiting At Any Time; Limited Waiting (Mon-Fri 9am - 4pm); Permit Holders Only (Mon-Fri 9am - 4pm).

Annual Permits will cost £37.50 for residents (£56.25 for a second permit) and £500.00 for businesses. Discounts for LPG vehicles and electric vehicles.

Enforcement will be by the East Sussex County Council Parking Attendants, with a £60 fixed penalty for infringements.

At the moment, this is obviously intended to control unwanted parking associated with the two Universities on Mondays to Fridays. But it'll be a simple matter to modify the scheme to introduce the restrictions at other times of the week, should the stadium be built.

And there we have it - on street parking will be impossible in Falmer Village, once the stadium is open.

And anyone who thinks that Brighton's Parking Wardens are zealous issuers of parking tickets hasn't encountered the ESCC redcoats.

I've talked with Melanie Cutress about this.

It's been prompted by the problems with university parking and would be happening regardless of any stadium plans. The scheme is being introduced now, because it needs the support of East Sussex County Council as the enforcement authority - and ESCC have only had enforcement powers for a year or so.

Before ESCC took over parking enforcement from the Sussex Police, it was simply the case that Mr Plod wouldn't commit any resources at all to enforcing village parking restrictions in a meaningful way.

I think the Universities are making a contribution towards the costs of setting up the scheme.

Sounds like the perfect place to bring all these old bangers with the orange cardboard 'For Sale, Good Runner 495 o.n.o' sign on the windscreen that are currently littering preston Drove. Maybe add Melanie Cutress's phone number to the orange cardboard for that added authenticity touch aye?

It shouldn't affect us as stewards will keep non-villagers out of the village on match days anyway.

I think it was less than 100 for the stadium itself.

How much for parking IN the pond? Surely doing so will improve the ecology of such an edearing natural feature.

I'm pretty sure the rats floating on the surface get to park for free

Parking at the stadium itself will be for staff, players, directors, sponsors and people with disabilities only.

Pre-booked parking will be available at Sussex University and Falmer School for people in multi-occupancy vehicles, who are prepared to pay a premium price for it.

Free parking won't be available anywhere within walking distance.

So how are we supposed to get there then? Look - if I can't park my 3Litre 4x4 right opposite the entrance (hazard lights flashing of course) then I'm not going.

:p

Well what f***ing good is that then? I just hope that we get another site with proper parking facilities. Even Derby have pay-on-the-day parking, even if the walk is a bit long! :censored:

You will just have to park in an adjacent field and walk. Don't forget your green wellies if it is raining! ???

I'm sure there'll be an enterprising farmer who'll open up his field on matchdays. After all, 2000 cars at £2 x 23 matches isn't to be sniffed at.
