The parking up Withdean road has grown week by week for the past two seasons. Its always the same cars, but nobody can be checking up, and there is probably nothing they can do about it. I seem to remember that the club was liable to get some sort of financial penalty from the council if parking in the zone occurred. If this is true, they want to sort it out.

I walk, so I don't care abut the parking - unless some of the price of my ticket is going to go in fines to the council.

That's a very odd suggestion. What powers do the police have to enforce parking restrictions in Brighton?

They can stop double parking, round Hanover there are signs on street lights that tell you this.

Why would we expect you to comment ?
In an odd sort of way, the Withdean car park is rather special to me.

Way back in the early nineties, I was involved in setting up and managing the Withdean park and ride service. This involved trying to get as much off-street parking for shoppers as could be achieved - including developing the new parking area near where the Away supporters' entrance now is and demolishing the old tennis centre at the Family Stand end of the stadium.

Has anyone noticed that the markings of my parking bays are still there, around the South Stand entrance?

All that good work ... gone to pot, just so the Albion could have a home.

Before the football club came, it was always winter Saturdays that were the busiest time for park and ride.

Fair play, understand now.
Do you know anymore on the closing of the park & ride from April, I'm given to understand that its as a result of the funding ending ?, as previously the retailers in Western road used to subsidies it or fund it and this is now being withdrawn .
Is this correct ?

I think you will be able to park at Withdean then catch the ordinary bus into town. There will be no dedicated P & R buses. Compared to other towns such as Cambridge, Norwich and Ipswich Brighton's P & R is non existent now. A very backward step not have a scheme. The council are talking about some mini sites but unless they have proper P & R facilities with a very frequent bus service no one will use the service. Even Horsham manages a decent P & R from the A 24.
