This keeps coming up again and again. Presumably we should've rejected Poyet for this reason?

I think the point is that if you continually gamble on un-proven managers, sooner or later you'll end up with 3 wins in 20

Well Poyet did have some experience as an assistant at Leeds and Swindon who were in the same division as us and doing better so it's not really the same thing at all is it?

We were also playing at Withdean in the lower reaches of League One where the gamble on Poyet was worth taking. It was also muted that Leeds success was more down to Poyet's coaching than any input form Wise. Oscar had just won a title.

Hyypia had done sweet FA

So, imo your argument is RUBBISH :smile:

But surely that can happen with "proven" managers too?

Indeed it can, the problem is that it is much easier to be criticised for hiring someone who fails if they've not been successful previously. Clearly there is no magic formula to football management, but some would argue that you are taking less of a risk if the manager has been successful in management previously.
