Hi Palace fan here in peace....

Just wanting to say I am really looking forward to the games against you lot this year. I am happy for your club that you have a new stadium and seem to have put together a decent team with a good manager.

I obviously I want a Palace win on Tuesday but know we will have a tough game, I think Murray may start he has been in good form in the cup so far.

Two things though:

1. As we unveiled new plans for a new stadium last year on the NSC in Crystal Palace, I was wondering is that all it took for a sharp increase in attendance for yourselves or was it playing back in the Championship?

2. Your predictions for both games?

Hope you have a good season as although your our supposed rivals I rather dislike Millwall and Charlton more (work colleagues and all) plus I cant stand Portsmouth//Southampton or Bournemouth!!

1. 18000 ST sold before we knew what division we were in.

2. 2-1 Albion next Tuesday. (Other game too far ahead to comment.)

We couldn't fit more than 8k into the Withdean, so the fact that the increase in attendance was sharp is largely due to the ability to fit fans in. The Withdean was also a truely awful place to watch football, and we have waited for a new stadium for 14 years (that's 14 years without a home, not 14 years of having a home but wanting a better one).

1. I think the chairman has been surprised with the increase in attendance, I think we were figuring on a 14,000 average. The increase has been a combination of winning division 3 last year, having a good team playing great football and obviously the publicity generated by the new stadium. There is a lot of good feeling in Brighton about the team now, for the first time in a long time we've got a set up to be proud of.

2. Brighton 2-1 Palace at the Amex, and 2-2 at Selhurst.

Very much this , to be honest alot has been made out of "plastic" fans , but the truth of the matter is Withdean was the worst place ever to watch football - it's simple common sense really , same price at a nicer stadium will bring back the fanbase

as for the game , I earlier this summer predicted two 1-1 draws , one that we would feel hard done by that we didn't win and one that we were glad for the point , and I reckon the hard done by one will be Tuesday - we shall see mind.

Seeing as you made a polite well reasoned post, you'll get the same.

Next week I think we will win 3-1.

The stadium has played a big part in many fans returning, but so has our brand of football and growth under Gus.

You will no doubt get more fans with a new stadium, whatever your hardcore say about their love for Selhurst, it is an antiquated dump. Success will bring even more fans.

The unreconcilable false argument that many of your fans make is that our ground in only 7000 real albion fans and 15000 plastic premier league fans. Aside that it is completely inaccurate, with not much else available for palace fans to belittle us currently, the question will remain, that "IF"our growth is based upon non albion plastic fans, that seemingly revile all your "genuine loyal fans" where will the inevitable growth of your new fan base come from?

The true answer to both is that their are many fairweather fans for both clubs, They like modern new grounds and a winning team, but fans of our clubs all the same.

Hope you suffer Tuesday!

town full of eejits
there are loads of albion fans who gave up on withdead as it was a dire place to watch football , on a bad day you could hear a pensioner fart from across the pitch even with the game in process , we will rinse you lot home and away this season , that is all.

Well I am sure im in the minority that does want a move away from Selhurst as I can not stand the blocked views imo that shouldnt happen in todays football stadiums.

I think it will be a draw in both games I think you have a very strong front line but at the moment so do we. Zaha and Scannell ruined the Boro, Burnley,Leeds and Coventry back four who apart from the latter are teams that on paper have stronger defences than Brighton.

Again coming from a point of ignorance about Brightons team how many of your 11 are youth players from your academy who will understand the importance of this game.

Thats where we may have the motivational upper hand with Dougie knowing this game inside out (scored his 100th for the club away to you).

Also when its our turn to host you all, has your club thought of doing a beam back? Something that our chairmen are.

To be honest from what I've seen your lot so far Scannell looks a real handful and is definitely going to need looking after on tuesday night. I've been really surprised at your decent start, certainly confounded many of your critics. However should we play anywhere near our A-game on tuesday I expect us to win well (well that's jinxed it).

I think after the horrors of the Withdean era you will be genuinely taken aback by the atmosphere next tuesday, the myth of a stadium full of plastics will be well and truly dispelled.

As for players knowing the importance of the game, I think they will be in the minority next week. Funnily enough I think this will play to our advantage as they will treat it as a normal game and not get swept away by the hype, that should be left us!

I'm not sure it matters if the players are aware of the importance of this game to us fans. Infact quite the opposite, they should rightly treat it as any other game that we need three points from. But to answer your question: In the first team squad from our youth ranks: Lewis Dunk, Adam el-Abd, Tommy Elphick.

1. Pretty much every new stadium ever built has seen an increase in attendances (I don't know about Darlington, the archetypal white elephant, but any other you can think of has). The reasons ours is bigger than most are fairly obvious I'd have thought. We didn't move from our traditional home, we moved from Withdean which obviously suppressed attendances - much as most Palace fans might want to believe it we haven't suddenly aquired 12k Prmiership plastic fans. No doubt we've got some new fans but we have people flocking back, people who only went to Withdean occasionally, or never, but reamined Brighton fans, are instead season ticket holders or wanting to come every week even if they're not. Added to that everything came together perfectly for us to flog season tickets, having to fight so long for the stadium wasn't good but was huge publicity and must have built anticipation. Last season we were playing great football, a great team, a great manager, and although we were far from up when they went on sale, and probably even when they sold out, things were looking good. There was a buzz about everything going on about the club.

I'm sure Palace would get an increase in support at a new stadium (I thought they'd already taken up residence on NSC? :moo: ) but probably not on the scale we have, because that is down to our unique circumstances.

2. 2-1 and 1-1
