I dont agree with this plastic fan theory that some palace fans seem to believe in because when we got into the premier league and we had sell outs every home game..well where did that come from now we have 17k as the highest attendance all season.

Maybe you have a point about not needing to know the importance although I'm sure you will have a few trying to put the boot in to Murray, as we would with Bostock.

Pleasing though to see you have 3 home grown players in the first 11 that's another good sign from Poyet, who is getting a very good reputation will be interesting to see if you have a good season this year if he isnt tempted to go somewhere else imo he would be a fool - much like if it where to happen to Dougie.

Yes I am I work with Charlton and Millwall fans so its good to have the banter at work and I never liked Charlton celebrating us getting relegated and loved the idea of our non exsistance two seasons ago (somehow forgetting that without grown sharing with us that could of been thier fate).. And Millwall well they are just thugs!

Never in question to be honest , rivalries always bring out the best atmosphere wise in both sets of fans, just nice after what seems like forever the ability to have more home fans watching it Tuesday night.

1. Pretty much every new stadium ever built has seen an increase in attendances (I don't know about Darlington, the archetypal white elephant, but any other you can think of has). The reasons ours is bigger than most are fairly obvious I'd have thought. We didn't move from our traditional home, we moved from Withdean which obviously suppressed attendances - much as most Palace fans might want to believe it we haven't suddenly aquired 12k Prmiership plastic fans. No doubt we've got some new fans but we have people flocking back, people who only went to Withdean occasionally, or never, but reamined Brighton fans, are instead season ticket holders or wanting to come every week even if they're not. Added to that everything came together perfectly for us to flog season tickets, having to fight so long for the stadium wasn't good but was huge publicity and must have built anticipation. Last season we were playing great football, a great team, a great manager, and although we were far from up when they went on sale, and probably even when they sold out, things were looking good. There was a buzz about everything going on about the club.

I'm sure Palace would get an increase in support at a new stadium (I thought they'd already taken up residence on NSC? ) but probably not on the scale we have, because that is down to our unique circumstances.

2. 2-1 and 1-1

Remember Middlesborough's constantly half-empty new ground a few years ago? Horrendous.

The increase in attendance was always going to happen, wherever we ended up playing. It just so happens that everything that could have gone right, did, and that extra cash and support will be here for a good while yet.

1. I think the chairman has been surprised with the increase in attendance, I think we were figuring on a 14,000 average. The increase has been a combination of winning division 3 last year, having a good team playing great football and obviously the publicity generated by the new stadium. There is a lot of good feeling in Brighton about the team now, for the first time in a long time we've got a set up to be proud of.

2. Brighton 2-1 Palace at the Amex, and 2-2 at Selhurst.

Oh and don't forget the small matter of winning a Championship - breaking our transfer record at least four times during the summer, and havnig the best PIES in the entire football League. Some people ONLY come to the Amex for the PIES

nah it doesn't.

I don't say that as a dig at Palace or to get into a pissing contest about who has the biggest fanbase (IDGAF).
But going from whatever they get now or even what they got in the Prem to 40k is an even bigger increase than we got with all the extra factors involved (and I'm sure I read somewhere that we're likely to have one of the biggest percentage increase in average crowds ever recorded!). As I said, I don't really see how they can achieve that. If they did it would be something special, and would put them among the top supported teams in the country? You don't think that's a touch unlikely?

It's worth repeating this point again, as the vast majority of season tickets for the Amex were sold between January and the end of April. Although we were well ahead at the top of the league, it wasn't 100 % guaranteed that we would get promoted.
