I reckon Defoe would turn a call up down from what he was saying in the press.

I dont think he would get called up, it will be Bent of Johnson. I dont think we can call anyone else up now anyway. Think we have to make do with the 3 strikers we have.

Yes, he was awful.

I did have my doubts about even letting Owen on the Plane, I will be very surprised if he plays at another World cup again. His Engalnd days are over.

Feel for the bloke but he just cannot stay fit.

If Sven hadn't got lucky with Rooney we'd be knackered now - why the hell didn't he have Defoe, Bent or Ashton on the plane instead of Jenas?

But at the end of the day were still in the World cup, a cracking chance of a quarter final place and yet to lose a match.

Remember Sven is a lucky bugger and the ingredients are there and on and off we have looked good, it might yet come together

Ummm you cannot call up replacements once the tournament has started, the last time we could have called a replacement up was 24 hours before the Paraguay game.

I knew that, I misread the question as can we replace him with the other 22 players we have not can we call up another player.

No, that's the whole point of taking a squad along. If we're crazy enough not to take cover then that's our issue.

The only time we could possibly replace someone is if the goalkeeper, reserve goalkeeper and spare goalkeepers were all injured. Even then I'm only presuming FIFA would let a team fly out a replacement.

It's just pure farce. You could put an octagenarian who'd had both knee caps replaced out on that pitch and they wouldn't fall down like that in 60 minutes, let alone 60 seconds! It's not that I don't feel for the lad but it doesn't stop you wanting to roll your eyes in total and utter exasperation.

WHEN he is fit - which lately seems to be never and the fact he needs about 10 game sto get any where near sharp enough at international level in a major tournament it's simply not good enough. In my opinion which is neither wrong or right just saying i wouldn't have taken him.

I 'll stand by the fact i doubt he'll grace another world cup - he'll either have been superseeded by a younger better talent or have retired from the game through injury.

Sven squad is creaking at the seems sadly.

TBH if you played David James up front then he would probably have more impact than Owen did, In fact if you picked a random person from the crowd I bet they would look more dangerous.

Makes youlaugh really thinking about it, how much doid Newcastle pay for him? 7million and how many game shas he played for the. Now i'm no medical expert but the way old Sicknote went down and knowing his history i'll be surprised if the Toon army see him in action again before Xmas.

You can see exactly why the big four of Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal didn't want him - when he was leaving Madrid.

Liverpool fans couldn't believe that Benitez didn't want him back - bet they are thanking their lucky stars now.
