The problem with Owen is he has never been willing to add more to his game. Now that his pace is going he is mullered. He will get goals in the Prem but I can't see him being an England regular in the future.

I can't beleive some of the crap being said this morning. :nono:

Owen & Rooney is a tried and tested partnership we know that works well up front.

Can we at least wait for the results of the scan? It may have just been a bad twist and inflamed the ligaments. If so, that will ease down in about a week. *crossesfingers*

Easy to say in hindsight and you cannot deny his goal record for England - not being a huge fan of Liverpool may have clouded my judgement and i've had many a heated discussion with mates about it and had to eat humble pie on occasions but i've never really rated him as a player compared to the likes of Lineker, Sheraer Sheringham etc

He's a one trick pony, unless ball is layed on for him on plate it just doesn't happen.
Now he's lost a yard of pace he looks decidely ordinary.

Where the real evidence that the Owen/Rooney partnership is a winner then?

Hardly Shearer and Sherrngham or Lineker / Beardsley is it?

He never really clicked with Shearer either.

Owen unfortunately seems to have had his glory days. Great striker on form but seems to have lost it - fatherhood seems to have taken its toll  Poor guy - but I don't think he'll be back after this injury...

Owen and Rooney aren't working...injury is conspiring and when they are on the pitch together - they haven't been finishing.... its all well and good to say wait and see - but we're fast running out of time...

A goal every other game at international level is superb, not many others managing that.

Exactly, that is really all there needs to be said about him.

This is a bitter blow. I do think he was probably guilty of feeling his way back into fitness but previous experience shows us that he comes alive in the big games and I had no doubt that he would again. His movement and ability to stretch defences is what enables Rooney to have space to hurt teams.

I agree with this, Owen is injury prone but always has been. If we are relying on someone like defoe or darrent bent to replace michael owen then we are in for some tricky times ahead. Owen's scoring record is superb he is a massive loss for this world cup however poorly he has played in the first two games he could always come up with a goal or two and when he is fit and playing with rooney they are a serious force. Lets hope we see him playing well again very soon.

Jake Robinson is available. The Aldershot fans said he was like Michael Owen. :)

Some of our stupid lot seemed to think Jake was the next Rooney.

South Coast rooney - my fcuking arse.

exactly

the only trouble is owen and rooney are hardly getting to play together, simply due to the fact that owen seems to be constantly injured
