EXACTLY. There was no telling where we may have got at the end of the season. What if we had gone all the way, on either occasion? Would these young, ambitious managers want to walk out on their first chance to manage in the Premier League?

You can sort of see, with hindsight, maybe Gus had felt he genuinely had taken the club as far as he could, and he'd had some bloody good times along the way. Bowing out then was ultimately annoying as it went messy, but you can't grumble about what he achieved in his time here. However, with Oscar, he's hardly given it a good crack. I was quite optimistic that two playoff setbacks could have actually been the making of us and that next year we could properly give it a go. I know the money's not up there with the big boys, but a bad workman blames his tools

He said "The club has been aware of my thoughts for several weeks and during this time I have had discussions with both the chairman, Tony Bloom, and chief executive, Paul Barber."

His "thoughts" could just as easily have been "If we go up this season, I'll stay; but if we don't I'll go because I believe that running the club under FFP guidelines makes it very improbable that I'll get BHA promoted, given all the clubs with parachute payments. In the meantime, I'll give my all in the remaining games and playoffs if we get there".

Of course, my interpretation could easily be wrong, but it's just as valid as saying he made his mind up to leave several weeks ago, no?

I'm prepared to eat a massive slice of humble pie now over Gus' departure. I can't blame an egomaniac this time around, Oscar showed all the signs of wanting to stay for a long time until the wheels started to fall off during the transfer windows. If a considered, pragmatic man like Oscar wants to walk with all the positives of the new training ground and growth of the club in terms of support, then something must be really off behind the scenes, and that can only be down to a lack of backing financially combined with high expectations of success. I'm very worried about next season now as we can't afford another train-wreck of a close season with so many influential players out of contract. If we're not very careful we'll be in a relegation scrap next season rather than pushing for promotion again. TB and PB have got to pull out all the stops now.

I would go with either broken promises or, alternatively, being asked to achieve something that they didn't believe was possible with the potential budget. Either way its not a good scenario especially as we are yet again left with the head of football operations most likely looking after the retained list with little or noinput from the man who would be here next season.

Whatever his conversations with Tony about his future might have involved a few weeks ago - a few weeks ago he should have been eating, breathing and sleeping our next game. He should have been sweating our next game. Washing his hair with our next game.

Being on the phone to Tony about his future, whatever he was saying, meant not being focused on the job in hand, the job in hand being promotion to the Premier League. How any manager can be in a promotion push for the Premier League and have their mind elsewhere is beyond me.

It takes a committed obsessive like Ian Holloway, now there is a manager who would hang up on the Chairman, because he has no time to think or talk about his future, he's got the next game to plan, can't think about anything else. We could use a dose of that kind of focus if you ask me.

But the point is it seems there is a problem within the club - less than 12 months ago Oscar commited himself to bha for 3 years - and we are not being told what has changed. The club is not handling this too well - fans will start turning on the hierarchy if they are not careful

I would guess that your interpretation is wrong. Press releases are VERY carefully worded documents and if his thoughts had been as you have suggested then I'll be a monkeys uncle and eat his hat.

When he came in he would have been aware of the budget and the clubs target. But as someone who has never coached in England, maybe after a season he now realises how competitive the championship is and feels that the budget is simply not enough to fulfil that target. So he resigns. Either Tony significantly ups the budget....which doesnt seem likely or he gets in a coach that can do it on a shoe string. Maybe Tony needs to lower expectations. Buts that difficult after two top 6 finishes and season tickets to sell.Maybe we have run before we have walked properly.

I don't particularly like the man, but I have always gotten the impression he is too focused on his team winning to think about much else. And I admire that.

Although Gus gave me the same impression, then he called Tony and asked to leave tomorrow, so who really knows?

I'm losing faith in football.

The most worrying thing about this fiasco is that it means the retain and release list is probably up in the air just like last season so more weeks of indecision before anything happens and then we somehow then get to keep some of the dross to keep the numbers up

Heard at the remf that his wife and family have moved back to Spain quiet some time ago as they wasn't settled in the UK, hence the reason the club have know this for some time

We're in violent agreement that press releases are very carefully worded!

Where in "The club has been aware of my thoughts for several weeks and during this time I have had discussions with both the chairman, Tony Bloom, and chief executive, Paul Barber." can it be deduced that he told them he was leaving at the end of the season no matter what? I may well be wrong and others right, but my interpretation of what he may have meant is as valid as an interpretation that determines he told the club he was leaving come what may.

CMS WAS buzzing, which was awesome to see. I hope he is here next season, it would be great to see him fit again, quality player and lifts the team when he plays.

Seems like ages since we have had any buzz or lift in the team really.
