Dreadful sentence. Maybe state will appeal. That is only 1 year more than he got the first time. Not clear if this is an additional 6 above the time already served.

This, it's not a sentence, and he will probably get a soft ride in a " Nice " prison too.

Completely at odds with the view before to-day where there was an expectation of a reduced sentence from 15 years but only down to 12 years.

So strange with 6 years which from here looks too soft.

Judge has always been soft on him. Says he is 2 different people - the 1.8m tall olympian and the 1.5m tall disabled person. I'm afraid that the prosecution stuffed this one up but were probably hampered by the crime scene being contaminated (there is circumstantial evidence suggesting that one of the bruises on Reeva's back was caused by the cricket bat, not the the magazine rack for example). Stories that have emerged of his character are very different from the ones played out in court. I suppose the judge is going on what has been presented to her - a supposedly "broken", disabled man who thought he was being burgled and the prosecution could not break this story down.

We will never know the real story as he will never divulge it. Personally, I would not want him doing charity work anywhere near my family or friends.

Reaction appears to be that the defence will not appeal (no surprise there), but State almost certainly will. Most legal experts are shocked at the sentence. Time already served does not count, so this is in addition to that, but he could be eligible for parole in 2 years. This will continue to rumble on, I suspect.

Totally agree - the judge has always erred towards him and his mitigation rather than address the seriousness of the crime he has committed.

The South African Government are appealing the 6 yr sentence. Hope it's increased to 15 yrs minimum.

The problem is how many times can they appeal that the sentence is too lenient. IMHO they appealed and the judge gave a verdict that should be it now they have had 2 bites of the cherry.

I expect you'd want proper justice if it was your daughter who was murdered in cold blood.
