I used the word Flummoxed during a work conversation yesterday and received blank looks from several who had never heard it before.

'Flibbertigibbet' - I think I've been using this old expression wrongly. Supposedly it's someone prone to gossipy chatter or talkative person. I've always used in relation to a lady of questionable morals . My modern fave now being " dirty little sausage wallet "!

What are these conversations you're having, and who with...?

A phrase rather than a word

Steady the buffs

I think I might start shouting this at matches when we should be game managing the last few minutes

“There’ll be wigs on the green” was a phrase my mother used as a threat if I didn’t stop doing something she disapproved of.

BN1, in GOSBTS
Sure some of these others have mentioned but too many pages of fine words for me to work through this morning!

Here's some of my regulars:

Malarkey (most recently used this morning in a work email)
Taped (when recorded on the VM Tivo box etc)
Okey-dokey
Git (used yesterday on another thread here!)
Gubbins
TTFN

I use Malarkey, Taped and Okey-dokey, but TTFN always seems a bit too 70's DJ to me (and we don't want to go there) 😲

Your "modern fave" expression will be very handy for anyone meeting you to know that they should immediately terminate the conversation.
