I would also use Twickenham.

Both Stade De France and Parc De Prince were used in '98.

The later hosted the excellent Iran v USA game I believe

I'm sure Twickenham can't be used for football for some reason.

When Pompey finally get round to doing whatever they are doing to Fratton Park, what will the capacity be?

Two stages are supposed to take the capacity to 35,000, although there have been quotes that they may move away entirely and build from scratch. I am not sure if Gaydamak is that committed though!

It'll be hard to know. They'll need to find someone in Portsmouth capable of counting.

I'm sure if we got a major tournament, a few clubs will push ahead with new grounds as there will be grants a plenty flying around.

Looking into it, FIFA's rule is no more than two grounds in each city so Eastlands and OT could be used.

all this had made me realise how much of a STUPID idea it would be for a joint bid of scotland/wales/ireland to host it

they have a few stadiums that are good enough, but they're all in about THREE cities!

Assuming it had happened, realistically they'd not have used three in Dublin - extra cash would have been chucked at Munster Rugby to make the new Thomond big enough. Would still have been an issue with all three big enough Scottish grounds being in Glasgae mind.

Ah OK.

Pressumably if the FA know they have the World Cup coming, they would encourage places like Portsmouth to attempt to get 40,000 seats in, so these places could be used.

if thats the case then sheffield wednesday will have to put a tempory stand in another of there corners.

I'm sure Hillsborough won't be considered as its starting to look its age. Also FIFA would be less than impressed with 'some temporary seats chucked into a corner' when it comes to our application.
