Why ? We've been all over the place and have found somewhere we really like.

Well you're not going to find anywhere nicer otherwise.

Lanzarote. Been there many times in October and always good. With kids go to Playa Blanca - quiet, low rise and compact and well sorted with safe beaches. We always hire a villa with pool but some good hotels eg Lanzaorte Princess or Yaiza Princess a bit more upmarket. Flight time is 4 hours so easier than Egypt. Really fancy Cancun but had to cancel at 24 hours notice in October 2011 when a hurricane hit the resort so have been a bit put off at that time of year although it looks superb.

We do exactly the same, it's sooooooo easy isn't it..... I like going to new countries, city breaks blah blah blah, but I love going to Playa Blanca, it's just so easy to relax.

Precisely. We are fortunate to be able to do more than one trip a year so try somewhere new on one but back to PB on the other. If it wasn't so far from the Amex I could move there!

Why would anyone want to go somewhere that, with the exception of Turkey, is considered as an occupied Country.

Never thought that was an issue when deciding where to go... no one getting shot there and its got beautiful beaches and great historical sites.

Have you been there?

(also its very very cheap!)

Caribbean seems a risk with hurricanes, so has anyone got any ideas on good destinations.

We go to the Caribbean most Octobers and never yet been caught up in a Hurricane. Usually go the last two weeks of October (half term etc) and always had glorious weather.

Isn't Cancun basically the Costa del Sol for America?

How was it? thinking of caribbean / cancun but little bit scared of rain and strong winds?

I went mid-November until early December, west coast of Barbados (Crystal Cove.) Wonderful hotel.

Weather was fine, we had 1 day with intermittant showers, rest were fine, but the very odd shower (5mins tops) clear, sunny skies! Don't think the West Coast suffers with wind as much as the South or East.

No, I've never been there, my Greek Cypriot friends would never forgive me. I have seen photographs though, and yes it looks like the North has some beautiful beaches.

I have also seen photographs of their houses in the north that they had to abandon when the Turks invaded.
