Another vote for Turkey, smashing place. We're off there again in July for the 6th year running (well, flying actually)

Hi all NSC

Want to take family driller on hot holiday in October half term, the med seems out and we went to Egypt last year so want to try something else.
Kids are 7& 10 and like things to do

Caribbean seems a risk with hurricanes, so has anyone got any ideas on good destinations.

Over to the good NSC folk.....

Did Sisily in October, spaced out on Mondello bay beach for a week. was brilllllllliant.

what hotel did you stay at out of interest?

Crown Paradise. Very nice. 2 accommodation blocks in a horse shoe shape. If you go for tower 1, book a room on a high floor as the bar is below you. Best go for tower 2. Apart from that it was a very good hotel, loads of different restaurants within the complex, nice staff, loads of pools, right on the beach etc. Booked it through MyTravel and the flights were with Virgin. Quite a few nice hotels along that strip.

Kefalonia is a beautiful island and was still warm in October when I went a few years back.

Madeira but it depends what the kids expect from a holiday

Yes, very temperate if you stay on the coast, gets a bit cool and wet in Ribiero Frios though. We had good fun walking the Levadas until a dead dog floated by. Kids would love that.

I think you should try somewhere new.

Dubai Atlantis - October is the perfect temperature plus the kids will love the waterpark, the river ride takes 45 minutes from start to finish. Simply amazing.

Way out West
We have friends in LA and have been out there for the end Oct/early Nov half term on three occasions. The weather is almost guaranteed to be excellent (circa 25 degrees, sun from dawn til dusk). Great beaches (Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Manhattan Beach, etc), plus Universal Studios for the kids. Don't bother with a hotel, rent someone's apartment through websites like airbnb.com. Only drawback is flight time - but then it's the same for Cancun.
