Injections should be free. The malaria tablets are unlikely to be - there are various ones about. I had some for a holiday in Zanzibar that cost about £150 for each person. That was a bit of a shock...

I went to Mombasa, stayed in a hotel on Mombasa beach. It was fantastic. One of the best holidays I've ever had.

I'm not sure how much the injections are these days, about £25 for the lot I think. You'll need to call into your GP, or the local immunisation centre and fill in a form. This details where and when you're going. You'll more than likely have all the injections you need in one go.

It was inceredibly cheap out there for everything. Cigarettes were 50 - 60p for 20. Watch out for the lads on the beach trying to sell you stuff. They can be a right hassle to get away from.

£150 each? They saw you coming Bozza. :lolol: Was it Maralone?

The ones we had for Zanzibar a couple of years ago were £16 each for a 6 week course. Can't remember the name though.

Injections at my surgery were free. They said that surgeries stopped charging a couple of years previous. They would much rather people had the proper immunisation than go without.

Yep - about £150. Dr suggested them as didn't need to be taken in advance - just whilst there (from what I recall) so were better than ones you have to take in advance and may get some effects from.

Sounded great.

He didn't mention how much they'd charge us for them at Boots...

Its nicer holidaying in than doing business with, its so corrupt.

A lot of trade in Mombassa is relabeling indian tea as Kenyan then shipping it out to Pakistan.:lolol:

Nothing works in Mombassa without a bribe, probably wont apply to you as a tourist but it may be worth remembering just in case.

We found everyone to be very friendly and helpful. We had taxi drivers offer to lend us money, hotel reception staff offering to get friends of theirs to pick us up when we went off to Nairobi for a day and the hotel football team took a few of us on their bus to watch them play. We even organised a guests v staff match at their pitch later in the week.

I'm going on Thursday.

All necessary vaccination advice can be sought at your local GP and they will administer most for free. However you will need to pay for the Yellow fever injection and the Malaria tablets. The Malaria tablets that are supposed to be the best are Malarone and they cost about £40 for a box of 12. You take 1 the day before you go and then 1 a day while you're there.

The vaccinations you have to pay for can be administered here at the Masta travel clinic..

Interesting point about injections.

My wife and I have different GPs, at different surgeries (neither of us bothered to change when we married).

When we went to Malaysia a couple of years ago. Her injections were free and I was charged a tenner! We are both NHS.

Maybe it was £150 for both of us *fuzzybeerhead* - sort of works out right if £40 for 12 as we'd have needed 4 boxes as we were there for 3 weeks.

Injections were free at GP - but I think we might have had to pay for Yellow Fever too as mentioned above.
