I was asked to go out* there last summer and got a bit paranoid about the amount of injections and tablets my GP said I needed, so found someone else to go for me. Not sure that was the best decision mind :(

*With a computer restoration charity I volunteer for, they bring a maintainace crew over to the schools every summer to beat the old dinosaurs back into usabilty or take stock of what needs replacing when "new" kit is sent over

If you are in Mombassa you should try to take the time to go up the coast to Malindi. There is a nature reserve covering the beach and sea with some really impressive corals and fish. Even if you can't dive, you can hire glass bottom boats and go snorkelling. Great day out.

Best holiday ever!

I stayed in White Sands hotel on Mombasa beach and went on 3 day safari to Tsarvo national park and stayed in the Voy lodge.

Top holiday I would highly recommend it.

I'm going on Thursday.

All necessary vaccination advice can be sought at your local GP and they will administer most for free. However you will need to pay for the Yellow fever injection and the Malaria tablets. The Malaria tablets that are supposed to be the best are Malarone and they cost about £40 for a box of 12. You take 1 the day before you go and then 1 a day while you're there.

Yeah £40 sounds about right for the Malarone tablets, worth spending a bit more to get them as they don't have any side effects compared to all the others. Injections should be free as well.

Mate of mine and his wife went there last year. One of their trips was to a local village where they were shown round the school. He reckons that pencils and biros are like gold-dust and there's not enough to go round for the kids. So if you were to rob your office stationery cupboard before you went, I'm sure it would be much appreciated ;)

yea woman i know has just come back and all they want is pens and sweets! they'd rather you pay for stuff with your flip-flops or baseball cap than cash.

at home
went there in the late 1960's....when living in South Africa.

Beautiful country only got in on mum and dads passport which is/was British....South Africans weren't allowed in. In fact I seem to remember flying to malawi and then on to Mombassa.

Preferred Zambia.......Victoria Falls is something you should see before you die...truly awesome

You're not wrong. This is when the little scamps discovered I had a bag full of pens for them.

(The small one on the right is upset as I'd just told him to stop f***ing begging.)
