Do yo actually expect people to believe that a club of their standing wouldnt have a spare shirt for each player.

No idea why people are bothered about this. If you can't identify a player of the team you support without seeing the number on his back then there isn't much hope for you.

Most of us can but there are new young supporter who cant and these are the ones we should be looking after and encouraging for the future.

That's pretty harsh. We've had some players who are far from simple to immediately distinguish between for people sitting a long way back, or with less than perfect eyesight. El Abd and Bruno? Sparrow and Vincelot? Upson and Bridge? All recent examples of pairs of players of very similar stature and appearance, playing in positions where they could easily be mixed up, at a glance.
