Respond in like kind.
She has written a civilised message to you, so return with one back.

Wish her the best of luck in working on the things she wants, you cannot force relationships and as her 'friend' you hope she furthers her future in the way that she chooses.

After that, become completely scarce, make your time completely yours, and definitely get away from anything that is anything to do with her. Don't reply to any more contacts (because then she thinks you are 'on the back burner') - don't even read them - and concentrate only on things that distract you completely from immersion in someone else's affairs. Take a trip if you like, but realise that you are not in this life to be embroiled in somebody else's soap-operas. Think about your strengths and talents, and your own passions and talents or abilities.
Stay away from alcohol, keep your self respect, carry yourself with class.

The chances are that she is making a wrong move, will realise it, and you will have a clearer vision of what you want out of life anyway - you'll only go on to better things, and won't be wasting any time on that bolleaux. Plus, you will be a better person afterwards and be clearer on wise choices in life.

Take the higher ground Grasshopper.

P.S. Lads, NEVER speak badly of your rival.

As far as women are concerned, it ALWAYS plays into his hands. If you have her desire, sympathise with the lovelorn loser trying to win her love, don't blame him for wanting to be in your shoes.

If you do NOT have her desire, express respect for a bloke who has her attention, as he's unlikely to live up to it.

Don't get personally affronted by a rival's attentions either, or you invite comparisons (unless he upset her or tried grabbing her, then you defend your princess with chivalry)

Simple really
