Brighton - In your face
I prefer the Oxford canals as long boats are much more dignified. But if you do go can you pop into Norwich and congratulate them on beating us by being the most atheist city in the country? I'm still shocked at the result.

Yes, don't bother. Flat and boring.

If you want a waterways holiday, hire a narrowboat and cruise the UK's canal system. Much more varied and a damn sight more to see/do along the way.

If you MUST go to Norfolk, make sure you visit The Locks public house between Beccles and Bungay. It's like no other pub on this planet!!!

In what respect? Decor, drink available, food?

Pretty sure we visited that one, recall a pub at the end of a navigable part of the broads with a generator providing the power and entertainment was a bloke on an accordion:facepalm:
Went on a mad run along the tops of the moored boats at closing time:rolleyes: it was 1981 after all.

Northern side is prettier. Breydon water takes you over to the southern broads toward Norwich which is worth a visit if you have not been before Breydon can be tricky if the weather /tides are against you Time it right and you will be fine
Take your time dont rush relax and enjoy
# ps don't let the wife drive across breydon water:facepalm:

Wroxham on the Northern Broads is where we started and ended. Lots of nice river boating but I would say relatively little to see off boat. Each day consisted of aiming for a village where we thought there might be a nice pub. Sometimes this was good, sometimes disappointing. Generally though it was fun and relaxing.

It's quite funny when you then get back in the car and drive in twenty minutes as far as you managed the day before in the boat!!

Went about 30 years ago with some mates at Easter.
It snowed!
Tied the boat up at high tide - in the morning the boat was swinging from the mooring.

And ROY owns everything.

Did the northern Broads about five years ago. The river Ant and Barton Broad are very pretty and much more varied than going up and down the main river Bure. Also as its a smaller river there are not the sailing boats tacking across in front of you. If going up the Ant then Sutton or Neatishead are very pretty and quiet places to moor up for the night. There's a hotel with nice bar and garden by the water at Sutton and a lovely old country pub at Neatishead about five mins walk up the lane. Do not overnight at Stalham as its a dump, but can be good to pop up there in the morning for a pump out and a visit to Tesco if you need a re-stock. Can be congested getting under the narrow Ludham bridge in the middle of the day in high summer. Holding position whilst two boats went the other way was fine, but not being an expert, by the time the fifth appeared under the arch I was starting to drift out over the channel and had trouble keeping out of everyones way.

On the subject of bridges all the river guidebooks warn you about Heigham bridge at Potter Heigham with good reason, only to be done at low tide with everything folded down/back. Avoided this by stopping over at Ludham, where there was a nice basin to moor in and a decent sort of pub with about three ales on, which even had a band on in the evening. Was a good night. Needed to moor quite early at Ludham to get a spot, though.

Enjoyed those places rather more than Wroxham, Horning and Acle.

Don't sail at night after a few drinks. It's a few years ago now, but we got the wretched boast wedged left to right across the waterway after hitting the only rock there. The owners weren't best pleased when we finally got the thing returned to them leaking badly.
