This is all basically “I’m more northern than you”.

As far as northerners are concerned, the further north you go, everything below is the midlands.
It isn't really. The people I know from Nottinghamshire would say they're from the Midlands/East Midlands and would get quite mardy if you told them they're Northern.

By contrast people from Lancashire or above somewhere around Leeds probably won't know what mardy means unless they happen to like the Arctic Monkeys.

The key is, you can easily annoy people in Sheffield by telling them they're in the East Midlands, and it's important to take advantage of this at every possible opportunity.

But not willing to pay for autistic children because they get diagnosed so easily by GPs on Zoom calls.

“Children with SEND and disabled adults, including autistic people, are not victims who are being ‘over diagnosed’. They are people who face huge delays and long fights to get the most basic support across every aspect of their lives, including diagnosis, education, health and social care. Spreading misinformation only perpetuates stigma and makes life harder. We’re calling on all politicians to drop the political point scoring and stand up for their autistic and other disabled constituents.”

You made a good point, and that's something Farage has to be challenged on.

Anything north of the South Downs is northern. My wife of 35 years from Coventry still hates it when I call her Northern! 😆

It is incredible that anyone who understands its implications supports leaving ECHR. This is like the diversity point I made earlier where people read “ethnicity” and ignore age, disability, sex (ironic given they get so angry about women’s right related to trans but not related to employment vs men so I guess just some women’s right (same as free speech)). When they hear losing rights they think this just applies to criminals and immigrants. It does not mean workers, all of us accused of anything and getting access to fair trial etc etc.

Madness. This is just ridiculous.

If they know what pea-wet is, they’re Northern 👍
So, Wigan and only Wigan then (I had to Google that because I'd never heard of it)? :lolol:

Just to briefly attempt to relate to the actual subject, I'd guess that when most people say "northern" on this particular thread, really they mean "shithole full of ignorant morons", and it's not really helpful. I don't doubt that if we'd had council elections across the country they'd have swept up across the board, because they pretty much picked up most of the old small c-conservative vote, most of the genuine right wing vote, and a good portion of the generic "none of the above" vote that sometimes goes to the Lib Dems, sometimes goes to the Greens, and sometimes goes to whoever has the most amusing name on the ballot paper. They won't have nearly as much traction in bigger cities like Newcastle or Bristol (or Brighton), but otherwise the "but things aren't fair" vote is pretty evenly distributed.

As an aside, I've never been happier to live in a unitary authority that's not under County Durham County Council.

I think you’ll find most people on this thread know someone who lives in the north or have lived/live in the north. Don’t believe the silly chants that away fans sing.

I tried to point out to someone on here a couple of weeks ago that removing rights from immigrants means giving up their own. But it’s in one ear and out the other with these people because they just don’t believe the leopard will eat their face.

Yes!

Ha ha ha 😂 🤣

Reading people losing there shit! Priceless!

We've had corrupt governments since 1997..
I can only assume you're referring to the occasion (posted again on another thread) when they celebrated prematurely in their match against Burnley, regarding the last play-off spot.

Just to be pedantic, Reform won the vast majority of their seats from the Conservatives and Libs/Greens won the majority of their seats from Labour/independents

In summary Conservatives lost almost exactly what Reform gained 674/677, and Labour and Independents lost almost exactly what Libs and Greens gained 207/207.

I grew up in Newhaven, I know the Sussex view of "the north"/"literally anywhere more than two miles away" well enough. :lolol:

To the extent that I'm attempting a serious point, it's that the reasons for voting Reform are much more tied to being from a rural/smallish town than how far north somebody is. Which when put that bluntly sounds staggeringly obvious.
