Another striker and winger is a must. If Murray gets injured for a long period, as he has before, we are screwed, end of.

If???

"Poyet Aims for Strength in Depth
Posted on: Sat 24 Jul 2010

By Will Jago

Gus Poyet is happy with his summer squad rebuilding, but has told seagulls.co.uk he wants to improve by adding strength in depth, and is stepping up his quest to add at least three new faces before the season starts.

Speaking at Albion's Albufeira training base, the Albion boss said, "In the last two or three days we lost out on a few of our targets, but we have intensified our work.

"We are still working really hard with the chairman and head scout because we need to make sure that we get the players as soon as possible.

One long-term target remains so, but Poyet says Albion must wait on Newcastle United to clinch a potential deal for speedy winger Kazenga LuaLua.

"Kazenga LuaLua is close one day but the deal seems far away the next; I don't know what is going to happen, but I think we still have a good chance of bringing him in."

Meanwhile Poyet believes he has a potential 20-goal-a-season striker present in his squad ahead of the new League One campaign.

The Seagulls lacked a consistent free-scoring striker last season, but he hopes at least one of his existing strikers can hit the 20-goal mark in 2010/11.

"I have got a good feeling that the striker that we need to score 20 goals is already here, but the problem is that we need to prove that.

"I can say that the strikers we have here will all have the chance to be that goal scorer we are looking for. Glenn Murray, Ashley Barnes, Chris Holroyd and Gary Hart will all have their chance to score 20 or more goals but they have got to take their chance.

"That is not something that I can do for them. However we would like another player who has proven he can score over 20 goals in a season at this level."

Former loan signing Lee Hendrie looks set to join Aberdeen, but Poyet has ruled out a subsequent move for him if he doesn't agree terms with the SPL side, as his priorities lie with other positions.

"Unfortunately for Lee Hendrie, we told him we couldn't offer him anything so he looked at other clubs, and now looks like he will sign for Aberdeen. We were in touch for a while but you have to negotiate situations and salaries.

"We have players in the midfield who play the same position as Lee Hendrie, and I didn't want to take a risk before we signed the other three or four players we still want to bring in. He didn't want to wait, which is fair enough and he won't be joining us." "

saw Vine last season coming back from injury and he looked overweight and unfit and, frankly, even more disinterested than Glenn Murray on a bad day.

Maybe if he has had a full pre-season he would be worth a look but I'm not convinced

nb: my money is on our signing Brett Pittman from Bournemouth, LuaLua, Morais and Midtgarden

Big fan of Poyet but he is living on another planet if he seriously thinks Hart will be the 20 goals a season striker. Come off it. I'd expect us to sign a big, experienced striker, a physical presence, someone maybe in the mould of Owusu plus left winger which everyone knows about. The loaning of McNulty looks stranger and stranger when Poyet says he's now after another left-back unless he thinks McNulty is just not up to it.

I very much doubt we will get that sort of player. It is not in keeping with his style of play. I think he will be looking for a fast technically strong player - not a "lump".

I think what Poyet is saying is that hart, holroyd et al will in our side have the chances to score 20 however they will/may not do so. Having the chances and putting them away are two entirely different things.

I don't think he does. He had to include him in saying that because he is after all one of the strikers and couldn't say he thinks that Barnes, Murray and Holroyd can get 20+ goals and not Hart.

seems to me he was being overly optimistic thinking Hart will score goals and the jury is still out at best regarding Holroyd.

I know he denies it but I think McNulty must have indicated he would not be happy to stay as back-up to Painter with little likelihood of game time so better to let him go out on loan but either el abd or Kishishev can provide necessary cover so would be surprising if we bought someone in.

Troy Deeney ?

Walsall have turned down bids from Watford "and others" but admit he will move if their valuation is met

I rate him. Very good with his head and feet. He would make a great signing for us..
