Severnside Gull's ideas are much too considered and grounded in reality. They surely have no place here.

My, my ,how things have changed since the start of the season. After a handful of games some posters were saying PL here we come, now it's Poyet doesn't know what he's doing. Right from the start it's been clear that certain players have been found out at this level and some others are finding it hard going. The Boss has tried this and that and now it's clear he will , if he can, bring in new players. Fans should remember a team is not built in a day, players will come and go and what we're watching at this time is a side being built. IMO we will not be going up this season, so supporters? get ready for a few more bad results while we build a team to push for promotion.GET BEHIND YOUR CLUB!

If we sign Gonzo from West Brom in January it could mean last orders for Calde.

Possibly but Reyes covers about 4 different positions. Calderon will be second choice rb if Reyes comes permanently but don't forget Calde'll get his place back when Reyes goes to prison...

I find it odd that people are suddenly distrusting of Gus making new signings.

When he picked up Calderon and Painter, who were INTEGRAL to our title winning side last season everyone was over the moon. He also picked up Bridcutt, who I don't think anyone would like to see go. Greer was a Gus signing and has more than proved his worth. And what about the Ashley Barnes who picked up TWENTY goals during our successful campaign last season? Then there's Kazenga who EVERYONE on here was orgasming at the prospect of his signing permanently when it was first mooted.

The players who have't impressed are Paynter (who is only on loan anyway), Harley (who I accept looks like he isn't good enough) and then there are the sicknotes Vicente, Buckley and Hoskins - who I think it is unfair to blame Gus for. Vicente was always going to be a huge gamble, and it hasn't paid off, YET, but there is still time. Hoskins has shown he's a decent player, and if he stays fit and gets a run of games he WILL score goals. And Buckley is a GREAT player, who has struggled with injury in his short time with us, but still contributed to some vital results. And at any rate. he's only young. There's plenty of time for him to get patched up and become a skilled colossus for us.

I think overall Gus has shown he has a very good eye for a player, generally speaking. And that's just going on the ones he's been successful with. Who knows how many other super talented stars he's gone after without success?

Yes we need to strengthen to take this team to the next level, but I see no reason to worry Gus wouldn't be capable of spending the money wisely.

Far too sensible for this message board. Gus has actually been remarkably unlucky with injuries this season. Plus, although I agree with the sentiments others have voiced regarding our tendency to go down to easily, we've also suffered at the hands of dubious refereeing decisions in a number of games. All in all we've done pretty well with the resources available. We need to strengthen, but we also need patience.

MJT

This was an excellent post with which I agree entirely.

I just wish people would give Hoskins and Buckley (and perhaps Vicente) just a bit of slack.

"no chance of any statement signings like CMS in the January window" according to Gus today (via Andy Naylor on Twitter) ..................... so he has either learned from past experience to keep circumspect and avoid talking prices up or we don't have the cash and have decided that the play-offs are realistically beyond us this season.

Which is it? Who knows but it seems M. Habibou has gone home and is perhaps unlikely to return while the likes of Aaron McLean or a George Boyd have also disappeared over the horizon. No news of Lafferty - the Irish full back - or Jara Reyes either although word on the latter up here is that we are talking officially to WBA.

Some interesting comments but to be honest I am really enjoying the season, after 12 years sitting at the theatre of trees the Amex has been out of this world and I think most of the players have given there all. I for one think its a learning curve this season and we shouldn't rush to buy players we my regret in a few months time. Looking at teams who we have played there seems to be a big difference in build and height in the Championship just look at West Ham who were all so much bigger than our team, I think this is where our weakness has lied this season. Lets trust Gus & Tony who have done fantastic so far and go with the players we have with maybe one or two loans, then come the summer have a long hard look and then bring in the players which will kick us on to promotion. I for one am right behind the Manager, team & staff and look forward to every single game.. Seagulls...!!

I would never read into any statement like that with Gus in charge. How many players have we signed over the last 6 months that we or Naylor knew about?

Reyes was out of the blue, as was Hoskins & Buckley.

I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Bennet back down here for a couple of months on loan as he's not getting in the Norwich team regularly.
