As I saw it (once) the penalty came from a moment of madness from the defender from a fairly average cross that might/might not have created us with a scoring chance. It is not something we worked for.

Yes it was a golden opportunity to take the lead but with an hour left there is no way we can claim that’s missing the pen is the reason we didn’t win.

Arithmetic, the difference between 1 and 0. says it is.

Had that penalty gone in, with the goal famine broken and Norwich forced to come out, I'm fairly certain that more goals would have followed.

Glad our fans got behind him instead of against him today. He knew it was a bad day. Didn’t need people hammering it home. Should have scored today but it’s not all fault. He gives everything.

It was perhaps in part at least an act of kindness taking him off with him suffering as he was out there, and from his immediate expression when subbed, he may well have seen it that way.

I never like to dig players out and very rarely do and have been a big Maupay supporter despite his recent performances but very poor today, I never had any confidence that he was putting that penalty away. Should be Trossard on pens all day long for me..

However I can cope with his performance on the pitch today, it’s what I expected and it’s what he duly delivered..

What I’m really struggling to accept is his complete refusal to acknowledge the crowd after he was subbed. The fact that he got a standing ovation from the North Stand and the crowd singing his name completely baffled me because he was woeful but if I was him I wouldn’t have believed my luck, having done nothing to earn that type of reception… the fact that he didn’t look up or make any acknowledgment was very poor and not a good reflection on him at all!

I’m actually beyond the point that I’m pissed off with it all anymore just cannot wait for this season to end..

I think you need to cut the guy some slack; he was disappointed with his performance. Nothing more to read into this.

When watching we were never sure who had missed yet another chance. Have just seen highlights that showed in this incident Maupay had a good chance but miscued .Lucky ball went to Welbeck who also miscued. Unbelievable

Don’t think we have ever really played to his strengths . Look at the goals he scored for Brentford . I think in another team he would be a average premier league player in this team the way it plays he looks out of his depth at times .

He had 3-4 decent chances yesterday, (not for the 1st time this season). How can we not be playing to his strengths.

No but not aware of the standing ovation perhaps? Sometimes when people do something and I look in another direction, I'm not fully aware of what the people are doing. Could be the same for Neal Maupay.

If I was embarrassed with my performance I would probably also avoid eye contact with people and if I heard applauds and stuff I wouldnt be sure if it was genuine or if I was being mocked.

Very true! I often fail to hear my wife’s applause for a job well done (rarely given, I admit!).

Perfectly possible that NM thought the fans were applauding his substitution rather than his performance!?

I’d rather give our midfield stick for never scoring which is at least as much of the problem.

At least NM gives 100% effort every game……. don’t know his stats but he must be right up there in terms of ground covered.

Whilst those fans were also singing his song?

Who remembers those happy days when Murray was giving dogs abuse on here for not "responding to fans". Groundhog day

Like I said in another thread

This is the mentality of people who comfort their wives they're sad but then gets angry when they dont get a blowjob in return.

Maupay might have felt quite down and not in the mood for some forced social transactions.

but hey by most accounts in here there is no such thing as unconditional support in Brighton.
