So £2m is marginally more than we got for Elliot Bennet, and rejected for Craig Noone last season. Both who were purchased for next to nothing. Tell me again why this academy is so valuable?

So it was just over £1 mill, half of Clyne's reported fee .

No its was up to £1.5m compared to Clynes "ALLEGED" fee. And we didnt sell him anyway because we dont need the money. That isnt half but I forgive you considering you probaby went to school in Croydon. He also cost us peanuts, so again, wheres the big value in this academy? We seem to have done almost as well buying kids with potential.

How many other players have you made decent cash on? I can only think of three? And you still went bust.

My dads bigger than your dad.

Good business for palace as they desperately need the money to offset the huge losses as per last season. Any palace fan thinking these transfer fees are all up front or likely to be given to hapless dougie to bankroll some major signings will be very dissapointed, they'll keep that necrotic scab of a club afloat for a little while longer but the general trend is downwards I'm afraid.

Like. I understand why Palace fans are desperate to assert some sort of parity between our clubs but it doesn't make it any less ridiculous...

The value of the academy is to bring players through to the 1st team. Now you seem to only recruit players with champions league experience, it seems a waste to go ahead with your high tech academy, but what's another few million anyway.

Agreed. They've had several years of being able to be all billy big bollocks over us and rightly so but the balance of power has shifted and they can't do that anymore with any real sense of credibility since there is nothing about their festering shitty tinpot existence that any Albion fan could possibly be jealous or envious of. They may make a few mediocre signings in the next few weeks or even push the boat out a little and sign mcCormack who lets face it would not rank very high on the football richter scale if he signed for us but would be a major deal for little old palace. Their team is getting weaker and I fancy a flutter on them to be relegated if dougie sticks to his one dimensional negative tactics. It's a great time to hate Palace as they are undoubtedly the shittest they have been for a very long time and long may it continue into a pompeyesque clusterphuck

Nathaniel Clyne is worth £2m (with a 20% sell on fee) when he is OUT OF CONTRACT. His contract has EXPIRED. He would have gone for an absolute mile above that price if he was tied into a long-term deal like Zaha and Williams are.

The reason this academy is so valuable is because we've produced players like Clyne, Zaha and Williams. We have received £2m (and 20% sell on) for Clyne despite his contract having expired. We have turned down bids of £5m for Zaha, and we will eventually sell him for far more than that. Williams appears to be the best prospect yet, and we will get an estimate of his value over the next 12 months. He could be the best player the academy has ever produced.

Also produced from our academy is Victor Moses. Victor Moses was sold by our administrator in 2010, for a measly £3,000,000. Due to our being in administration, the fee was much lower than it should have been. Despite being in the last year of his contract, Wigan have turned down an offer of £7m for him from Chelsea, and are believed to have accepted Chelsea's final offer of £10m.

THAT is why our academy is so valuable. To reiterate why Clyne only went for £2m, it's because he was out of contract. The way compensation works is that the more games Clyne played for us, the less money he was worth. He played over 100 games for us, had no contract and was STILL worth over £2m.

WHAT? Our team as it currently stands, without any new signings, is quite significantly stronger than the team we had in 2010. Add McCormack and another couple of million pounds worth of talent, and we're going to have a very strong team next season.

No doubt reflected in the betting markets? Oh wait. 80/1 to get promoted. Only 2 clubs with longer odds. How strange for such a strong team.

We haven't signed the players yet, have we?

Looking at things AS THEY STAND, we've sold a few players and only brought in a right back, a center back and a covering striker. The fact we've got a very large transfer budget now is irrelevant until we have spent some of the cash.

Let's see what the odds are in two weeks. I'd be very surprised if we weren't comfortably in the top half in the eyes of the bookies.

Seaside IF your 'academy' is so fantastic... how come your present team is pretty crap and finished 17th last season?

I think you'll find it is your administrations rather than your academy that have kept your turd of a club afloat in the past 10 years.

In which case, I'd recommend liquidating every asset you have (including the caravan) and investing heavily at the current odds of 80/1. In a few weeks time, when Palace are being priced more realistically around 16/1, you will be able to trade easily into a position of guaranteed profit...

Reportedly he's gone for £2 mill plus 20% sell on. He was offered a big new contract last summer, which he declined.( no pun intended)
He will go on to prove he is a top full back, and will have a long career at the very top.

We have received £2m (and 20% sell on) for Clyne despite his contract having expired.

Why is the Official Saints site saying a fee hasn't been agreed yet and it could still go to tribunal then?

. The way compensation works is that the more games Clyne played for us, the less money he was worth. He played over 100 games for us, had no contract and was STILL worth over £2m.

So a player who played 0 games with you (therefore providing no proof of his ability) is worth MORE than a player who is PROVEN at Championship level.

Nope, I don't get it.
