I'm gonna take a punt here.

The Albion No.8 in post no. 17 looks like it could be Kerry Mayo.

Going to Soccerbase and seeing his appearances for that season, and comparing with times of year, when we're playing (Sat, Tue) at the Goldstone, I'm gonna say that that game is 22nd March 1997 against...

I'll tell you why I reckon it's NOT Barnet.

According to Soccerbase, we played Barnet on 1st April 1997. That certainly wasn't a Saturday, and if memory serves me correctly, it was the last ever game under the floodlights at The Goldstone.

Before that, we played Barnet at The Goldstone Ground in Decemeber 1993.

Doesn't get me any closer to knowing who it is that we're playing there though.

bummer, right colours, right season (1997) a Brighton win 1-0 did we get a goal early and the lights hadn't been turned on yet(last hope)

Great pics - and didn't the Goldstone look dreadful by the end. Spent many happy hours on the half way line half way up the east terrace - and remember when it was closed (although I'd long since migrated to the North stand by then). Great pics - thank you.

I'm going to throw in an idea.

Fulham?

They used to have GMB as a sponsor. I took my very young daughter to two games the Goldstone near the end, and one of them was Fulham. I remember it was a lovely sunny day. Gotta say I have no recall of Fulham wearing that kit, but it would explain why there's a reasonable away support.

To recent for me to remember! I don't think it's Barnet even though the game would have kicked off in daylight. Somebody has posted pics from the barnet game and I'm pretty sure it's not them.

I'd be inclined to go with the Cardiff idea. It's certainly an away kit and cardiff had some wierd ones.

That copper's spotted somebody in need of a beating. I reckon Cardiff City has to be the right answer.

I like the pic of all the banned fans who were welcomed by those in Goldstone lane to watch from there. That really pissed bellotti off!

Do I spot Trigger?

From that last pic it must be Cardiff City. Bloke with CITY on his scarf in the left of the picture and another on the far right with a blue and white shirt on and you can just make out the CHO of ECHO, presumably the South Wales Echo sponsor.

barnet was the last floodlit game at the goldstone, so its not them

that is DEFINITELY cardiff at home, think we won 2-0. definitely recall a goal being scored with the FLAIR use of a chest from a cross, possibly by ian baird

Brilliant piece of nostalgia. It may have been the worst of times, but in many ways it was the best of times.

It has to be Cardiff.

No-one's mentioned that the first pic is a Brighton player scoring a penalty.

We did score a pen against Cardiff - Paul McDonald scored it. You can't really see the taker's face but he's got McDonald's build. We didn't score a pen against Barnet so it's deffo not that game.
