As an exile from Brighton/Sussex I have not been exposed to the new wunderbeer - that is until Sunday. The charming men at Ashdown Forest Cricket Club took us to the Coach & Horses (near Wych Cross) - a realy lovely little pub hidden in the valleys of Ashdown Forest.
Dark Star Best was on the hand pump (along with Harveys Best) so I thought I'd give it a go. Three surprises for me - it's only 4%, so a session beer should that be called for; it was much darker than I had expected; it was a far more grown up taste than I had expected. Bitter, caramelly - a bit of the Mild about it. Very enjoyable and wish we could have stayed for a lot more, but was driving. Will be back there this weekend with Mrs TRHK to give it a more thorough road test.
