I know people who have gone to Oz and come back,i also know people who have gone to Spain to live and come back and some people who have moved to Florida and would LOVE to come back but cant afford to.A couple of years of that sun and you'll be craving a gray drizzly English winter.............On the other hand..............................

Just come back from a 4 week holiday in oz and loved it, can't wait to go back, gonna try over the next year to angle a secondment over to Oz through work, will be awesome.

On my hols went to the goldcoast and was impressed by most of it, although to be honest, Surfer's was a bit like blackpool but in Oz, in my own opinion there are far better places. Maybe stating the obvious but Oz is massive with some stunning places that you just happen to stumble on (really enjoyed rainbow beach and coloundra on the sunshine coast just north of brizzie, port macquarie in mid NSW was nice too). That said, there are far worse places to live, horses for courses and all that!

Personal fave was sydney because a) it's absolutely stunning, b) there's many a thing to see and do (coogee, pyrmont, balmayne, double bay, and oh yes kings cross etc) and c) I could easily see myself living there. Melbourne was a nice surprise as was on a bit of a comedown after sydney, but the great ocean road was pretty stunning and the suburbs full of decent pubs and restaurants.

good luck, am v jealous, hopefully i'll be wending my way there this time next year!

Good luck byf, I'm as jealous as anything. My clock's ticking (only 3 years to go before I can't qualify) but little to no chance of it ever happening as my wife gets a nosebleed if she goes out of Burgess Hill. (Mind you, the way Burgess Hill's going, she'll probably get one if she stays!).

We had our honeymoon there 12 years ago and, having been made redundant in Nov 05, I took the whole family out there for a month last December. As The Slow Norris says, Sydney was the best for me both times -(Bondi was very disappointing but Manley was tops)-, Melbourne was quite English in appearance -(lots more greenery than in most places)- and climate, being that bit further south. Wasn't keen on Brisbane but recognised it was probably ideal for the younger, backpacker generation.

My uncle has a place in Scotts Head, approx 500km up the coast from Sydney, and the Pacific really is as blue as you see in those pictures.

Cairns is a shit-hole and only fit for one purpose, namely a departure point to get out to the Reef. We stayed just north of Cairns at a place called Palm Cove which was the dogs.

Mate, I genuinely wish I was your age and embarking on the kind of adventure you're going to have. Sadly, it's probably too late for me to make it permanent but I've been there twice and have some fantastic memories. You're going to love it!

I would suggest coming over for a few months to see if you like it it.
The people who go back after a short period are usually the ones who have only seen it from a book!
How can you possibly up root on this evidence alone.
If like me you have a family, one of you should come over, the most objective one,
to check it out and stay with friends or B+B.
It is different, people expect it to be the same! there are a lot of similarities with UK; but it isn't the UK
You pay more tax, believe it or not, dentistry is 3 x the cost as well as medical fees.
You would think that the cons out weigh the pros, for the first year they probably will.
But after this period it starts to reverse
and getting used to it becomes more rapid.......................just thought I'd get that off my chest:tumble:

Thats a really nice thing to say..Thanx m8.

Its exactly how I feel about it...sod it..im gonna go for it..I have no worried that I may be back in a year...least I would have done it. Or on the other hand settle if possible!

Mate, after you've lived in Oz for a year you'll have forgotten all about coming back to this damp, depressing, crappy little island. Oz is absolutely superb. Surfers Paradise is more built up than you'd think from the name, but the beaches are indeed glorious and it's about halfway between Byron Bay (poss. the Best Place On Earth) and Brisbane which is a smart kind of town.

Get over there - you'll LOVE it! :clap2:

Thanks to everyone for your views and expiereinces.

In reference to the are you sure...you should send family over...Well im 22 and really need/want to do it myself..I'm under no illussion about the fact I may come back...if I do then so be it..another life exp under my belt.....Thanks for your words though it is appreciated.

What I ideally wanted was a small suburb near to surfers and also another quiet beach area thats not as built up as surfers.

Was thinking maybe between broadbeach...anyone know???? and surfers (blackpool) lol
