Its a nothing gesture, in the grand scheme of government spending, £12 million is very little.

in some respects that's my point and yes whilst I don't agree with the BNP etc.

Should Government money be used for Political purposes?

They can do worse than spending it to allow the BNP to publicise their repatriation policy. Just let them talk and then have someone following it pointing out the flaws, it'll be like shooting fish in a barrel.

Is that the same policy adopted by countries like Spain and Japan?

At a time when the government should be cutting back on non-essential spending this is a ludicrous move.

You've got to love government spin. One person's 'comating the spread of right-wing extremism', is another person's 'pandering to the racists and trying to buy the BNP vote'.

And in any case, as someone else has said, £100,000 per area is going to do nothing on jobs, living conditions and education.

One of the fundamental responsibilities of any government is to control the borders. This Labour government, rather like the last one, lost control of the borders on its first day in office. A firm but fair immigration policy ensures good race relations and provides infertile soil for the growth of parties of the far-right. When people believe that the government cannot, or will not, control the number of people entering the country, when they believe that immigration policy is neither firm nor fair, and when they believe that the government is indifferent to their concerns (except when an election is due), then they will turn to a party that will address their fears.

It's pretty simple.

This government has to take much of the blame for the rise of the BNP.

When the Tories form the government next year, the BNP will decline. Why? Because the centre-right party will have a policy on immigration in which most British people, whatever their ethnic origin, can have confidence.

Good post but I doubt the tories in office will be a panacea like the 80's.

Labour has done to much damage for to long and griffin et al are avoiding a repeat by setting up grass roots support and become entrenched. It will take a generation to shift them barring the tories adopting hardline policies like Italy.

to many have already got into the country, so talk about tightening borders is all old hat ,the best way forward is to repatriate .

They have already tried that. I can't remember the exact amount that Searchlies and the laughable UAF spent during the Euro Elections but it was quite a bit. It didn't work.

As for policies based on half truths lies and falsehoods try the Labour party

Interesting, but any time a criticism of the BNP comes up, your defence of them is to name other parties - as if Labour doing something right or wrong means the same for the BNP. That's playground politics at its most puerile.

They're a shambolic reactionary party drip-fed by the ignorance and gullibility of certain parts of society. Anyone thinking they have a credible message that will benefit British society is, I'm afraid, also a sad victim of that same gullibility.

Pitiable.

This move to pump money into BNP, sorry deprived, areas will backfire wonderfully. Nu Labour apparatchiks always out of touch with reality, are well aware that people like Johnny Crudarse are likely to lose their seats at the GE. So they will pontificate to the electorate and say "look at the money we are investing in your communities, don't let the BNP in".

To which the BNP will reply, "See a high BNP vote and councillors gets the establishment worried and put money into your communities so vote BNP for more of the same and a bigger slice of the cake".

While I agree that this 'project' is utterly futile, only the truly gullible (them again) would really believe that.

Which is probably why you're right - the BNP would say that.
